Players Linked to Wings for Deadline

Bell is a massive drunk and quite frankly, a stupid guy.

Blaming Ron Wilson or the Toronto media for either of those issues is silly.

I don't think there are many GMs out there that want anything to do with him after his San Jose debacle.

..Just like no GM wanted to have anything to do with Dan Cleary?

And why not blame Wilson and the Toronto media? Its not like they havent been responsible for players underperforming in the past...

Chicago fans were glad when Bell was moved. His problems didn't begin in San Jose.

Cleary came into a training camp, impressed people, and earned a 1 year contract that didn't require a trade. Bell has been an embarassment to two different teams and the NHL as a whole, and would cost more than just money. They're not similar situations by any means.

This is 2008. Bell is not a desirable acquisition.

I proposed this deal in another thread but how about this

Hudler, Meech, 2nd,

for: Prospal and Gratton

I think thats actually a little much for Prospal and Gratton, given how deep the draft is this year.

Hudler for Prospal straight up is a fair deal, when you take into account Hudler's contract status (re-signed for another year on the cheap and an RFA after that = theyll have him for a while). Meech for Gratton straight up is actually pretty close too, but Id throw in a 5th to put us over the top.

Id like to see Detroit use that 2nd rounder (plus a lower tier prospect) to land Stuart. Or if Holland really wanted to go big, use Quincey and a 1st to land Blake.

Cleary also hadnt impressed anyone for his first 7 years in the NHL, had severe attitude problems and was known for his lazy work ethic, and underperformed to the point where he HAD to come in on a professional tryout.

Youre right. They arent similar situations. Bell still has a job..

Bell has worse problems. Tell me why he gets a pass when it comes to a tryout. Tell me why he's worth an asset on the trade market, when he hasn't come in and shown he can work hard and get past his drinking problems.

If you're talking about giving Bell a tryout period next fall, then fine, there's nothing to risk. But to actually give up something to acquire a guy who just got a DUI and hasn't done anything useful on the ice in 2 years? No. Absolutely not.

KpWings, you're talking out of your ass.

Mark Bell's incident took place when he was in Chicago. Do your homework before you accuse a player's coach for poor decisions that the player makes. Stupid comments like yours show a severe lack of knowledge, and negate plausible arguments that might make a fellow LGWer take you seriously.

Oh, and Ken Holland should not even CONSIDER getting Mark Bell. He can tryout during the 2009-2010 after another miserable season in Toronto, by then he may no longer have an NHL job.

Prepare for some foot-in-mouth. Bell was traded to San Jose and was involved in the hit and run over labor day weekend there.

Sorry.

What does this even mean? Bell hasn't played a game since January 3rd and nobody is going to touch him after Toronto boots his ass to the curb.

Bell was in the doghouse in Chicago for alcohol related issues during the season he was traded. While his DUI/Hit and Run occurred in San Jose, he was already a drunk.

I'm sorry, but this whole "we need grit" thing is out of control. If people on here had their way, we'd have a team that would literally tear the bones out of the opposing team when they skate by, but the Wings would lose every game because none of these players actualy would know how to play hockey.

Thanks, you saved me the trouble.

I'm sorry if that comment bothers you, but I still hate Ron Wilson. The guy is a pathetic excuse for an NHL coach. The only good thing he ever did in his entire career was coin the phrase "Hanta Yo Baby!", and that's only for comedic purposes.

By the way, your outburst was really uncalled for.

Hey, it worked for the Chiefs in Slapshot. And we woudn't lose every game if we had 1 or 2 extra tough guys instead of guys like Ellis, Hudler, Kopecky, Drake, Meech, etc. That's just some paranoid fear that some of you have.

Bell's out with a fractured orbital bone, suffered in a fight with Ryan Malone, of all people. He's out for another 4-5 weeks.

As for his drinking, he's been sober (and has passed random alcohol tests) since the accident took place.

I know that. I was responding to his bizarre comment about how Bell still has a job, apparently implying Cleary doesn't. Neither of them are playing right now.

Bell's supposed "sobriety" sure has helped his game in Toronto. When a team has to enforce random checks on a player to make sure they're not being idiots, why would any team want to trade for him? Babysit a soon-to-be drunk, or let him make his own choices and deal with the high probability of another incident (DUI or not).

Why are soo many people arguing about Bell?

I almost guarentee he will not be in Detroit, and hope not either

Wings do need grit and I think this deadline it will happen

After the ducks game Holland stated Ducks have great strength and size which makes them such a big contender

Then he says thats what he is aiming for and too see what happens

But please not Bell....

THN thinks that Tony Lydman and Sergei Fedorov are strong possibilities to end up in Detroit

It seems like every soft, terrible player is linked to this team in some way or another. Toni Lydman? Come on. If the Wings want a s*** defenseman, go out and get Marek Malik. At least he has size (plus he kicked Avery's ass in practice :yowza: ).

Its going to cost far more than that to get Hossa. You said it yourself that Atlanta would move Hossa to rebuild. That means no interest in Sammy, and little in Hudler. They'd want a couple guys they feel can be key components in the future. Flip would be the guy they'd want, along with Kindl or Ericsson...and a pick or two to cap it off.
Agreed. I'd be willing to part with Filppula, Ericsson and a 2nd round pick for Hossa signed to a long term contract. I see comments that management has made Ericsson untouchable -I don't see the point in that when it boils down to trading for someone of Hossa:s calibre. He should be right up there alley, except he's not undersized.
