Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 I'd totally take Flip over Hossa too. You guys need to wake up.
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 Both are available IMO. We'll offer Huds, they want Flip. They'll get Flip, a prospect, and a pick and we get a Cup. That seems to be the general consensus here... The past few cup winners have NOT made big splashes at deadlines in case people were wondering...teams that have won lately tend to round their teams out with depth at deadline leaving the core intact...in fact that is the trend of the Wings cup wins too... dallas27 7 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 This board is the reason why I can't stand it anymore... The answer to any issue on this board lately is HOSSA HOSSA HOSSA.... The Wings need more grit...HOSSA.... The Wings defense is too injured....HOSSA.... Damn it seems like this board thinks he is the second coming of Jesus Christ... I just think that its getting a little ridiculous... Or people have finally realized that Hossa on this team would be just sick (just sick refering to Rod Allen, I'm going to start sprinking in some Rod sayings seeing as the ball season is nearing). Yes, but since last summer was lacking in UFA signings that were deemed huge, the Wings need those signings now. IMO, we broke even in the summer and we need to gain ground now. The Ducks got bigger and stronger in the summer and are going to do it again now. Wings need to do the same. Keeping up with the Jones.

Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 The past few cup winners have NOT made big splashes at deadlines in case people were wondering... And teams with no scoring depth, an iffy blue line and at least one key injury (because you know we'll have one) don't beat a Ducks team with Sundin on it. At this point, those opposed to bringing in Hossa don't have a leg to stand on. If the money is right (and judging by Holland's own comments, it sounds like it may very well be), the trigger should -- and must -- be pulled on this deal. This transcends feelings about a specific player. This is about winning the Cup and being as competitive as possible for the next four or five years. Bringing in Hossa would go a long way in making that possible. Retaining Flip, a prospect and a pick? Not so much.

I'm not crying about anybodies posts, I am stating my opinion that Hossa will not address this teams issues and save the world. I am also stating my opinion that I don't like the idea of putting that much salary into so few players, regardless of if it fits I do not think that its a good idea financially. It is a board where I can state my opinion as well.
Guest nutz2u Report post Posted February 23, 2008 I know the guy has great numbers and he would probably do well with the Wings but, what will it cost to get the trade done and to sign him? He's making 6M and has stated that he wants to test the FA market. Will he want more than Dats' 6.7M and if we do pay him more then what do we pay Zetterberg, more or less? I am truley concerned about what we would have to give up and then not be able to sign him. The Burt thing still pisses me off everytime I think about it. SweWings 45 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 I'm getting way too worked up about this. If we don't get a big name player at the deadline I'll likely go insane. When will the trades start rolling?
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 I am also stating my opinion that I don't like the idea of putting that much salary into so few players, regardless of if it fits I do not think that its a good idea financially. I and others have shown that it would be fine financially as long as Hossa doesn't command more than 7. We could fit comfortably under the cap with room to spare for those pesky deferred bonuses you were ranting about in the other thread. Assuming Hossa's figure is 7, this trade is a must. (Yes, a literal must.) Anyone who disagrees is a terrorist. imho

I'm in the same boat, SweWings. I just need to see some deals get done, I'm losing my mind. All of a sudden Mack_Attack says that Sundin is waiting to waive his no-trade clause to go to Anaheim. Its a rumor folks, its believed to be true, has a good chance of being true, but do any of us know for sure that he is going to waive it or even that Anaheim is the team offering the trade that we are waiting on? What if its us? Too much assuming, I need to see something get done before I start jumping on this Hossa bandwagon too lol.
redwing_sparty 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 if we did get Hossa, our top 2 lines could look something like this: Cleary, Dats, Hossa Filp, Z, Holmer or maybe Filp, Dats, Holmer Cleary, Z, Hossa either way, it looks very pretty If we get hossa, flip is gone for sure. he will def be part of that trade. there is noone else who we could ship out (that we're willing to lose) that would make that trade good for atlanta. Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 (edited) Sundin's not coming here. I wouldn't mind eating crow in this case, but look at the facts: - Holland has made it known he doesn't want a rental, but rather, someone who's going to be with the Wings for the long haul. - Every sign points to Sundin being a postseason rental. He doesn't even want to commit to the Leafs for more than a season. - Sundin is nearing the end of his career. - Sundin is a Leaf. The Wings are the Wings. Not coming here, imo. redwing_sparty 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 1. i would give up huds and flip in a heartbeat for hossa. i like flip but he just doesnt have the same presence as dats or z. huds is a nice guy, but i dont see him longterm panning out. 2. (this is a joke) i think we should try to trick atlanta in too taking sammy and one of the other guys. haha 3. question: i've seen some posts about getting hossa and feds. is that financially possible with the cap? (i apologize if i missed a post from one of the cap guys who have this all figured out.)

Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 IMO, getting Hossa would eliminate the need for a player like Feds. At least for the time being. I'd rather see Holland put the Feds fund towards a solid d-man.
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 What playoff credentials does Hossa have other than becoming invisible? What credentials did Datsyuk have before this past postseason? And keep in mind, Datsyuk has had the luxury of playing in lights-out lineups his entire postseason career. Hossa has not. Bring on the complaints, folks. I'll keep knocking them down. SnipeShow 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 (edited) Better credentials than Datsyuk I'm pretty sure Datsyuk's name in on the '02 cup, correct me if I am wrong.* But I agree Datsyuk shy's away in the playoffs for sure, so why do we want to add another "scorer" and put the weight of carrying our offense on their shoulders if they are going to play poorly? They are both regular season players... As you can see in the standings, we don't need to win in the regular season, we have that part down pat. Its the playoffs that really count *I am wrong Edited February 23, 2008 by SnipeShow
