He did what he thought was right. I am not going to blame him for that in the least. Maybe he didn't think they would fit in under Mike Babcock's system...who are we to say? We don't run the team.

Also, he was also working with Steve Yzerman, Mike Babcock, and I'm sure Scotty Bowman as well. He didn't do this alone. They had imput as well, and perhaps it was a group consensus not to go this way. Again, who are we to say?

Yea agree with that... Who is to say that Holland is operating in a vacuum? Wings are a first class organization... there is Scottie, Stevie Y and Babcock with huge impact on what happens... Everyone keeps yelling about Holland and no one complains about Babcock or the rest of the key people as if Holland is the sole decision maker. Given all that experience and all these people I think we should all back off and assume they did the right thing at the deadline...

OK Im on the fence about Holland, He got a sturdy "D" man for essentialy a bag of pucks and a skate lace,

But it still does not get our scoring production up for a STRUGGLING (to say it mildly) offense

We are missing that Spark we need right now and not making a pitch for Olli or at least someone like Feds (again traded for a bag of pucks!!!!!) to give this offense a little kick......

I watched clubs like Colorado, San Jose and Anahiem all get better on "D" , these are all clubs we will see in the playoffs at some time. they beefed up on D because of the DETROIT RED WINGS...... we needed something else offensively to get teams wondering how to play us.....now grant you when our top 4 D men come back we will be harder to defend against, BUt right now we are losing games by one or 2 goals (except that vancouver nightmare) thats tells me that our young D is at least holding the fort.... we have lost 2 of the last 10 1-0 cant Score Id say our d did its job without the top 4 in the line up

Holland goes out and gets a Defenseman?????? I dont get that move SO i guess Lilja wont be playing this year in the post season? Fine I thought that could happen with Meech playing the way he has....(By the way .... Nice penalty last night Lilja)

THis club RIGHT NOW scares me going in to the post season .... Hudler USELESS........Downey..goon only.......Cleary Missed BIG TIME and we sign McCarty?? OK a bargain if he scores 3 goals and lays on some decent hits and keeps GRINDING away.... My Point is the "D" in the west has figured our top line out i think they have given them NO ROOM to skate and Homer has been nullified due to lack of shooting!!!! Bottom Line for me We ARE IN BIG TROUBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

past the 1st round IF we are lucky

I'll put this in one syllable words to make it easy to grasp.

If the price is too dear you do not make the deal. The price for Hossa was too high, the deal was not made.

If you had your way, we would have lost Flip, Kindl and draft picks for the next who knows how long. Too dear a price. Hossa is not worth it. Let the Pens have the headache. We will live - honest.

Would have loved to have Hossa but not at the price the Penguins are going to pay years from now when they got him, especially when it's slim to none I think that Hossa returns to the Penguins after the offseason.

Again, I'm no general manager of a sports franchise or business and I'm definitely not the sharpest nail in the toolbox, but trades in real life are a lot harder to pull off than trades on your PlayStation. Maybe the franchise Holland was negotiating with didn't like what he was offering. Maybe Holland wasn't willing to offer more, also considering the future. I know we want a winner and want to win the big prize every year but you got to think long-term as well, or so I assume. Maybe some players didn't want to go to the Red Wings. Maybe somebody was offering Holland chump change in exchange for something bigger.

Again would I have liked to get Hossa or a decent 2nd liner at first glance? Of course. But there are a myriad of things to consider I think why some deals should, or should not work out.

There's a reason Holland is a general manager of a sports franchise, and none of us are.

More D is never a bad thing. D wins championships - sure could have won us won last year. Mr. Holland didn't create an Opus this year, but I doubt anyone, even Yzerman, could put on those shoes, especially with the Cap.

One thing caught my attention. Seems like the Sens got Lapointe for nothing (6th round draft choice). I'm guessing Chicago didn't want to deal him within the division, but of all ex-wings we all seem to pine over here, given the low cost, I would have taken Marty in a heartbeat. No alcoholism, no ex-super model girlfriends, no gambling debt and who can say the guy doesn't have "grit"! Again, I'm sure Chicago didn't want to hand anyone off to Detroit, but oh well.
