Hossa

They can't be 100% SURE it's a first degree sprain without an MRI, but in Physical therapy there are knee ligament stress tests that we can do to test the laxity in the joint. We also test the "end-feel" to see whether the resistance felt is characteristic of a complete tear (called "empty end-feel, i.e. no resistance).

I disliked those tests very much.

But they were the deciding factor for my surgery because my MRI was unclear on my ACL tear.

I wasn't all on the hossa bandwagon at all... but to be fair its not like this was a sure thing injury like an underlying medical condition. This injury was caused by an accidental knee on knee. If he was on our team, that play may never of happened and he would have been fine.

but...

i am laughing a bit a the big deal everyone made about him and now he is on the shelf.

...but that would be the right thing to do consdiering what they gave up for him.

Huh? He didn't negotiate the trade, he didn't bet the farm. All he did was say he wasn';t going to resign in ATL. The Pens knew this and still rolled the dice. We all know they can't afford Crosby, Malkin, Hossa, and enough of everything else to be competitive long term. This is a one shot deal. He has no moral or ethical obligation to do anything but play 100% for Pittsburgh for the remainder of his contract.

Especially if he doesn't re-sign, but I wonder if he'll be tempted to re-sign just becacuse he'll feel guilty. I don't know much about his character, but that would be the right thing to do consdiering what they gave up for him.

You're kidding, right? Why should he feel guilty? Injuries happen, I'm sure he wasn't hoping to get injured. Also don't know why signing would be the "right thing to do". They knew what they were getting when they traded for him. He's a UFA, he can go anywhere he wants. They also knew injuries are a risk. All of that factored into their decision and Hossa owes them nothing except to do his best to get back and play well when he does. After the season is over, all bets are off.

This is exactly why trade deadline deals are a poor way to improve your team, esp when rental players are involved. All y'all who wished Holland had sold the farm for some of these guys should now just shut up. And don't even point to Richard's first game - the jury's out their until the season is done. So far all he's had is one good game. He could be injured in the next. But again, he's not a rental, he can still be effective in the 2009 playoffs if Dallas wants to keep him.

Because you are 100% certain Hossa would have gotten injured here.

Okay so the prognosis was a first degree MCL sprain, according to some random article:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?...boxscore_hockey

It wasn't the coming out party Marian Hossa or his new club was looking for. Not only did the Penguins offense look all out of sorts in the first half of Thursday night's 5-1 loss to the Bruins, but Hossa was forced out of the game after accidentally going knee on knee with Glen Murray. The prognosis isn't too devastating: A first degree MCL sprain. Translation? Hossa will be out about a week -- just in time to pair up with Sidney Crosby when he returns. Crosby was originally due back earlier, but the Penguins chose not to rush things.

Of course not, but it's obviously still a risk.

No doubt. But to say good thing he didn't come here because he got injured in Pittsburg is pretty dumb. If he was here he could have 4 goals by now, or he could have 0. Whatever.

Some of these posts are just ridiculous. A lot of people on this board spent quite a bit of time spamming about wanting Hossa to Detroit, and now that he's with the Pengs, you get all excited because he's hurt. Obviously I'm not talking about every single one of you, but those who I'm talking about know, and need to grow up.

I am not involved in this category of people you're referring too, but I'm pretty sure nobody is excited that he is hurt. People find it funny that he's hurt, because really, it is. You my friend, relax.

I still have doubts about the Penguins but I hope he gets back soon. Can't say I want them to win, but I'd rather make fun of them for failing with a healthy, full squad than an injury-destroyed one.

good thing crosbys injuries will out of way for playoffs so he cant blame poor performance on them!
