chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted March 8, 2008 Corey Perry out 6 weeks I hope he's back for the Western Conference Finals, so Datsyuk can get 'it'. The number 1 scorer on the lowest scoring team in the league is out for the remainder of the season and the first round of the playoffs. Putting the "man love" aside that comes from all the sports writers, I don't see them making it that far. I know everybody is going to jump up and down and claim that somehow by magic they are the team to beat. Sorry I just don't see it. Incidently they were just shut out 2 more games in a row... chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted March 8, 2008 Games in hand. Anaheim has 83 points with 70 games played. They're currently in 5th place. Meanwhile, the 9th place team - Nashville - has 76 points with 68 games played. If Nashville wins those games in hand, that gives them 80 points with 70 games played - 3 points behind Anaheim. Exactly. If you factor in the games in hand, things are not as they seem. Look at the wining percentages and then project them over an 82 game season. The result is that the #8 team has a projected 93 points. The Mighty Ducks have the equivalent of 97 points. If they drop only 2 1/2 games more than the rest of the pack then they are OUT of the playoffs. And they just lost their top scorer for the remainder of the season. I'd be worried if I were a Mighty Ducks fan. This Western Conference Final talk is a bit premature. First they have to get into the playoffs and that's tough to do no matter who you are if you can't score goals.

chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted March 8, 2008 I wouldn't worry too much - did you notice the Wings February record? Ouch! Anyhow nothing will matter until the playoffs really. Worst thing for the Ducks will be not to have home ice vs the Sharks....but they will still be the favorites in that series.... Did you notice the Ducks have been shut out twice in a row AGAIN! Ouch! Did you notice after the Wings February record that they still have the #1 record in the league. Yea sure, you're not worried. HEHEHEHEHE

Did you notice all the people here freaking out when Lids went out and we couldn't buy a goal or a win? I'm not a Ducks fan at all - Doesn't mean we cannot have sympathy for Duckguy. I'm not going to write the Ducks off because of one injury and two bad back-to-back games. They will still make a very formidable foe in the playoffs. I will take no team lightly that the Wings play either.....

I've been saying over and over again that the Ducks are far from a lock to even MAKE the playoffs...and everyone else says that they're a threat to repeat for the Cup. It can't go both ways. With Perry on the shelf for the rest of the regular season (and the Ducks getting shut out in back-to-back games), the pendulum is starting to swing a bit closer to my statement. We'll see what happens soon.
