Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I'm so happy the Wings re-signed Cleary. He's really grown on me since last season. He's a hard working, blue collar charecter guy that the Wings really need more of. He set's the tone with his hard work, and he's been a great fit for this team. I would have been so disappointed (and angry!) if the Wings had let him walk. His value to this team is huge, and there aren't many guys you can replace him with. It's something that I don't say enough, so I'll say it now...... Good...... job...... Ken...... Holland......

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 (edited) In a week's time Hudler will be the 3rd highest scoring forward on the team behind only Datsyuk and Zetterberg. He's doing so playing #9 minutes. True on the limited minutes part and also on playing with linemates that don't score/setup that much to an extent, but also consider Cleary and Holmstrom have been injured while Hudler has been healthy all season. If the first two don't miss a fair amount of games, Hudler probably doesn't flirt with top-3 forward scoring. Booster313 138 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 (edited) For the middle 23 games of the 69 he has played, Hudler scored 19 points. This is also coincidental with Zetterberg and Holmstrom being out of the lineup for many of those games, putting Hudler on the top two lines. In the first 23 games and last 23 games, Hudler has been on either the third line or fourth line almost exclusively with only spotty power play time. In other words...if Hudler is played in the top six, he will score nearly a point per game. If not, he'll still score better than most third or fourth liners. Or.....the extra ice time would further showcase his short commings instead of his strengths...and this his ice time would be cut again. I think Huds has a lot of skill, unfortunatly for him he's built like a Hobbit. I hope that he's able to overcome this as he matures, but if we can upgrade him in the meantime, well then let someone else wait for him to mature. I guess my point is although I'm not calling for his head, I think he's one of a couple players we should be looking to upgrade. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 (edited) as much as i like Hudler, i think it may be time to call it a day with it... he's just far too streaky, i don't think he'll ever make the top 6 During a 28 game period this season, he had 25 points. And that was in about 14-15 mins per game. Top 6 forwards get about 17-18 mins per game, you give Hudler that amount of time next season and I have no doubt he'd put up 60 points. Cleary and Holmstrom have both played more than Hudler even though Jiri has played in more games. Points/minutes or minutes/point Jiri is 3rd behind Z and Pavel (if you remove PK TOI Cleary does slide ahead of Hudler).
FinRedWing 172 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 (edited) Cleary's re-signing changed into "Hudler out / for the Hart Trophy thread"? Well,I guess it's way better than a goalie war. Edited March 13, 2008 by FinRedWing
