thought this deserved its own thread. Cabrera and the Tigers have reached a preliminary agreement to a 8 year $153.3 million deal. 4th richest in MLB history. wow... looks like we got a 3b for a while now. A-rod who?

Oh thank you GOD. This is a monster deal. And yes, very much solidifies our 3rd base position for MANY years to come. This is such an amazing era of Tigers baseball. I've been a die-hard since birth(1984), and I've had year after year of embarrassment for sooooo many years. Such a crazy difference now. We should all be thanking Pudge. He was the FIRST guy to actually sign with our group of bums. As soon as we got Pudge, that led to more higher scale players to want to play for Detroit. And now we have an all-star team. I honestly can't wait for this season to finally start.

Well i wouldnt exactly say that. A) We had to overpay for Pudge, he came for the loot B) We had to, what was at the time, drastically overpay for Magglio the following year. Not as if Maggs said hey, i want to play for Detroit cause Pudge is there!I think theres a misconception that Pudge opened the floodgates up so to speak. I dont believe we owe him any thank you. This revival was all about Illitch opening up the vault in order to overpay for guys we needed and Dombrowski striking gold with his moves like trading for Polanco, drafting Verlander and Granderson, etc. Those are the 2 guys we owe it all to (mainly DD).

They did over pay for both, but any team in sports that is horrible has to do it a few times to try and change the culture. Plus, after Mags season last year I think we got our money's worth.

Nope, dead wrong. Pudge just came off of an amazing season with the Marlins(World Series Champs too) he was absolutely not overpayed. Our best player at that time was Bobby f-ing Higginson. So of course Pudge was gonna get a nice contract. And as soon as we got him other players seen that Detroit was for real(Pudge, Guillen, Maggs), then the rest followed. Don't even act like all those guys would have wanted to come here if we didn't have those 3. Pudge signing started the new revolution in Detroit.

Guillen we acquired via trade for Ramon Santiago....how did Pudge have an effect on a trade? Magglio's contract was massive for a player coming off a knee injury, we offered significantly more than any other team was willing to offer. Worked out beautifully in the end, but if you think he didnt come here predominantly cause of the money (wasnt Boras his agent too?), i dont know what to say. The Pudge signing opened the door for the Fernando Vina and Troy Percival signings that year....ok i guess i can give you that!
