"We can't even get on NBC or TSN anymore (so) we must not be very good."

- Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock, noting that others around the league and in the media don't recognize what Detroit has accomplished - their third consecutive season with at least 50 wins - because they are so strong every year that it is taken for granted.

so true, thoughts?

That's our coach! I love being able to say that. I can't wait to hear about the new contract so I can get comfortable with the long term. I'm pretty confident he's going to be here a long while b/c he's too good to get fired even if the team doesn't do as hot, but I doubt that'll ever be an issue.

It's the same reason used as to why the Wings weren't selling out the Joe too.

I don't really buy that. There are always new fans wanting to go to a game and most others will see a team, good or not.

It's the economy and competition with all the other teams.

But there's been a HUGE increase in Red Wings shirts and other memorabilia with playoffs closing in. The playoff fans are coming out of the woodwork in droves.

And as for Babcock hanging around: Whether the Wings win the Cup or not, this new Red Wings team, that now has an identity all their own in the post-Yzerman years (we're finally out of that transitory funk), is most definitely Babcock's team. He changed the style of play, he gave them focus. This Red Wings team is truly Babcock's Red Wings, and there is no reason, even if the Wings lose this year, to take him out of the equation and send the Wings back into that post-2002 funk.
