jim3033 1 Report post Posted March 24, 2008 It's interesting to note that although the Wings have had 2 first round exits since winning in '02, the teams that have beat them since then have gone on to win the cup or play in game 7 of the Cup finals. I find this pretty invigorating. You could also note the higher level of toughness in the Western conference and the disadvantage Detroit has at acclimating to late games out west in 1 day. Wouldn't it be interesting to have the higher seeded team choose whether they play their 1st 2 games as visitors or at home for this issue of playing at 10:30? It might be tough for ticket holders. This is definitely one of the distinct disadvantages we have by being in the Western Conference. This is one of the reasons we should be in the Eastern Conference. Even though I don't know how many times a year I can stand looking at the baby puke yellow of Boston. Seriously, I think they put that yellow everywhere just to mess with the visiting teams. What a psych job, that would crush just about anybodies will to live.
#19=Legend 29 Report post Posted March 25, 2008 I noticed this awhile back, but three of the four teams to eliminate the wings, go on to lose in the finals. Anaheim Lost to New Jersey in 03 Calgary Lost to Tampa in 04 05 Lockout Edmonton Lost to Carolina in 06 Then Anaheim won the Cup in

stormboy 47 Report post Posted March 25, 2008 (edited) it seems like the late games would be a disadvantage...but i've never been sure how much it plays in. it would be interesting to see in both regular season and playoffs what are records our in 10 or 10.30 games as opposed to our record against those same teams while playing at seven thirty. i mean, you'd kind of need a control set of games on neutral ice, which obviously you don't have, and i think it was our team last year (or was it two years ago? maybe two years ago) that won a near- or new-record total of road games, while being mediocre at home. so i guess it'd be kind of hard to test...but i've always thought that playing at ten thirty (while the other team has to play at "4.30" in our barn) is a bit unfair. aren't we the only team in the western conference in the eastern time zone? edit: grammar Edited March 25, 2008 by stormboy

The Noodle 39 14 Report post Posted March 25, 2008 Although i do agree we should be in the East so we can play awesome teams like Toronto and the Canadiens. I love it watching games at 10 10:30 pm cause i have to work all the time and the only games i can catch are the 10 10:30 one's.
