If you could build your own hockey player...

I thought the choice of Smythe over Homer for "backside" seemed a little strange. (I can't believe I just typed that; out of context, that's pretty freaking weird)

Your platform looks fun... Mine, based on active players.

Forwards

Skating: Marion Gaborik

Wrist Shot: Alexander Ovechkin

Slap Shot: Jarome Iginla

Puckhandling: Alexei Kovalev

Passing: Joe Thornton

Defense: Sammy Pahlsson

Hitting: Dustin Brown

Leadership: Brendan Shanahan

Faceoffs: Yanic Perreault

Vision: Sidney Crosby

Fighting: Derek Boogaard

Strength: Jaromir Jagr

Defense

Skating: Scott Niedermayer

Wrist Shot: Dion Phaneuf

Slap Shot: Zdeno Chara

Puckhandling: Brian Campbell

Passing: Tomas Kaberle

Defense: Willie Mitchell

Hitting: Mike Komisarek

Leadership: Rob Blake

Vision: Nicklas Lidstrom

Fighting: Shane O'Brien

Strength: Chris Pronger

Mind you, Lidstrom excels the most in passing, leadership, defense, and vision... But I had to pick his biggest asset.

Not to pick on you, but this stuck out.

Campbell over Zubov in puckhandling?? Not in a million years...

I guess not...

It might have something to do with me watching not a lot of Dallas. The last Dallas game I actually watched even a minute of was last playoff season. I did watch a lot of Buffalo though. I will say Tomas Kaberle is close to being the best stickhandling defenseman, but his passing overshadows that.

How about doing this with just Wings and ex wings players.

I'll give it a shot. It's going to be tough, because I never saw guys like Howe, Lindsay, etc. play, so some of this will be based on reputation. It'll probably be a little slanted towards the last fifteen or so years as thats when I've really started watching hockey.

Skating: Sergei Fedorov

Wrist Shot: Brett Hull

Slap Shot: Brendan Shanahan

Puckhandling: Pavel Datsyuk

Passing: Alex Delvecchio

Defense: Kris Draper

Hitting: Vladimir Konstantinov

Leadership: Steve Yzerman

Vision: Ted Lindsay

Fighting: Bob Probert

Strength: Gordie Howe

I saw this rare hockey-related article on ESPN and was wondering all your answers to the question "if you could build your own hockey player, which pieces would you use?"

Here is some of what espn had to say...

I would be a cross between Lebda and Osgood, and everyone on LGW would love me !!!! :)

Here's my forward. Not going to limit to ex-wings, although, based on my viewing habits, I will tend to be a tad biased. Also worth mentioning that, like a lot of you, I only started watching hockey 20 years ago. All players are, obviously, in their primes on this list, and I've limited it to forwards, never using the same name twice.

Speed: Pavel Bure

Wrist Shot: Joe Sakic

Slap Shot: Shanny

Puckhandling: Jaromir Jagr

Passing: Adam Oates

Defense: Sergei Fedorov

Hitting: Scott Stevens

Leadership: Steve Yzerman

Vision: Wayne Gretzky

Fighting: Bob Probert

Strength: Tony Twist

Lockerroom: Mark Messier, AO or DMac

I thought you said you were limiting it to forwards? Stevens was a defenseman! Unless you really meant Kevin Stevens, who was also a fierce hitter.

Ack! Brain fart, and good catch! I revamped the list to only forwards on a rewrite and somehow missed that one.

Hitting: Neely?

my player would murder your player in a fight.

Forget about it. He doesn't deem it a necessary quality. Too many video games and not enough bar fights, lol.
