Milbury, McGuire get in their 2 cents

As I said in a previous thread, Pierre is a feminine hygiene product. He needs to be replaced quickly. Isn't there anybody better for NBC to hire? I think Pierre's price was right; NBC is probably doing their hockey programming on a shoestring (compared to the CBC) and needs warm talking heads.

I believe the winning nickname for Pierre on Kukla's Corner was ****** Canoe.

I almost forgot. That's what I'll be calling him from this day forth.

Hmm...

Unproven goaltending?

Ok Pierre.

Let's take a look...about 700 wins in the regular season, over 100 in the playoffs, 2 Cup rings as starter, 6 Vezinas, 3 Jennings (soon to be four), seven postseason all-star selections.

The most recent tandem I can think of that tops all of those marks?

Terry Sawchuk and Johnny Bower in Toronto perhaps? Can anyone think of a more recent tandem that surpassed all those marks?

They are unproven in WHAT universe?

McGuire: “It hurts me to say this, but I think the Detroit Red Wings are in trouble. I think they are an older team, I think they’re in trouble because they’re not a balanced offense. I think they’re in trouble because their goaltending is unproven this year.”

He still upset that his stud monster D-man Chrissy is suspended. Anyways, he says not a balanced offense, whats he talking about? How many 20 plus goal scores compared to other teams and also leading in a lot of the stats offensive and defensive. Everyone's riding the Shark wagon imo and so be it, then less attention on the Wings. One could argue that they've peaked too early if you look at the Sharks. Throught the whole season people were saying that the Stars would catch the Wings, then the Sharks were next, but it never happened. Go Wings

I don't mind negative press, but I don't understand how someone who actually gets paid to analyze and give predictions can say something like this. It's like he didn't even do any research before his statement.

McGuire is reading the exact same cue cards this year as he was last year... and the year before, and the year before, and the year before the lockout, and the year before that...

The guy is a joke. I don't know why you guys even take anything he says seriously, because he just pulls the s*** that comes out of his ass from the toilet, and reads it on the air as his "analysis". I swear, listening to him during a hockey game makes me want to punch a baby. He is such an unbelieveably stupid dumbf***, and this latest crap is just proof of it. Dominating the division? We were actually sub .500 against the division at various points this season, and are just barely above .500 now. What the heck is he talking about?

I swear, some of the so called "expert analysts" in the NHL are so pathetic and stupid. Pierre is especially the case here. He's nothing more than a bald Barry Melrose. His constant anti-Wings banter season after season after season has almost come to the point of dementia. Dominating the division is the only source of their points? What kind of crap is that?

Right. Like I said earlier, I don't mind negative press if there's facts to prove it. McGwire's latest comments about the Wings, there's nothing to back up his statements.

Edit: As I mentioned before, if anyone here is at the game on Sunday and McGwire is between the benches, start throwing stuff at him.

It soudns like he just watched one or two games when the Wings lost and didn't bother to fact check.

Oh, and as for the age thing, in statistics it's called outliers. Hasek and Chelios are so far from the median age that they should be removed from the equation, because it throws everything off. I bet the average age drops 3 years when they are removed from the equation.

Oh, and how about how Detroit is one of the fastest teams in the league?

ANd what happened to all that talk about Detroit's hard work ethic?

Meh, I love going into the playoffs as the underdog. This is all part of the ritual of being a Red Wings fan.

Well people always look for reasons why Detroit lose. Fair enough.

In 03, 04, 06 it was a combination of a lack of grit, lack of scoring, and not getting that "save" when it was needed. Last year it was injuries. In my opinion. This year, if they can't win, I would guess it would be because of lack of depth up front, goaltending, and not enough offence. IMO.

My point is, I have no problem with members of the media not liking the Wings team, but just, you know, come up with some original opinions as to why you don't like the team's chances. McGuire delivers the same song and dance with the tone of a genius scientist that has just discovered a cure for cancer.

Also, there are various reasons why any contending team may/may not win the cup this year, but I don't see anyone lining up to say "San Jose won't win because they can't get over the hump of winning the big game (aka 'they choke')". Or how about "The Ducks have a good team, but it's really difficult to repeat as champions"? Or maybe "Pittsburgh are dangerous, but they have questions in goal and on D"?

It seams we don't here these criticisms of other teams as frequently. Which always makes me ask "why the hate-on for Detroit?"

My 2 cents......

I hear what you are saying.

I think for me, I don't really notice it very much when the media bags on the Wings. Do they do it to us more than other teams?

I would suspect that Wings fans are far more attentive to negative things being said about the Wings than they are to negative things being said about other things. So I don't know if I buy the media hating on us more than others. I'd have to see some data to believe it.

As for original things to harp on us about. Well, its sort of been the same song and dance for us for a long time. If you look at our roster, its improved certain areas but in comparison to other Western powers, we are still smaller, softer, less aggressive and less tough than them. That's just a fact. It's always been that way. Much the same way as its always been said that we're the best puck posession team in the league. Some things just don't change.

I don't know about the goaltending comments. Some nights the guys look fantastic and some nights they've been throwing up stinkers.

My only concern right now is injuries. Kopecky going down is brutal. He's one of our few big bodies that can inflict some punishment on opposing players. Him being out just pisses me off no matter how much I can't stand seeing him fall on his ass shift after shift.

The idea that I might have to watch Abdelkader or Helm or Hartigan play in the playoffs almost has me throwing up in my mouth.
