Heaton 1 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 (edited) Streit isn't really a defensemen, he plays forward 5 on 5 and defense for the PP. Even on the PK he plays as a forward, we really don't need another PP specialist on the back end. Edited April 6, 2008 by Heaton
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 Liles. He has a good two-way skill set, is willing to get a little dirty, and is a good skater. He has no major flaws in his game ala Sergei Gonchar or Derian Hatcher. All of the other guys listed have significant flaws and their strengths don't outweigh that. Liles is a player who i've always liked . he is a solid defenceman who has a little bit of everything in his locker. out of all available on the list he'd be my choice. Rice 42 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 Commodore. Liles would be extremely redundant here. The Wings don't need another undersized offensive defenseman.

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 Commodore. Liles would be extremely redundant here. The Wings don't need another undersized offensive defenseman. Liles has a solid two-way game and doesn't back down. Yes he's small, but the question was which defenseman would you take. Liles is easily the top defenseman in that group. No, he's not a huge monstrosity who will dominant opponents physically. Guess what...neither is Commodore.

Commodore is a 6'5" 230 pound warrior -- exactly the type of guy the Wings could use on the blue line. Liles may be a better all-around player, but the Wings already have Lidstrom, Kronwall, Lebda, and Rafalski signed beyond this season. Lidstrom is the best defenseman in the game but Kronwall, Lebda, and Rafalski are small and offensive-minded. I'm not saying they're not good defensemen but they are all prone to getting beat along the boards by big forwards. Commodore grinds it out in tough areas and will punish opposing forwards. Systemfel 33 Report post Posted April 7, 2008 (edited) No, Streit is a defenseman who's been on defense most of the season. Markov - Komisarek Hamrlik - O'Byrne Bouillion - Streit Edited April 7, 2008 by Systemfel

I guess there are philosophical differences in the approach to this thread then. Some people are looking at it as 'Which of these defensemen would you rather have on the Wings' and some are looking at it as a 'If you were building a team, and had to take one of these guys, but could only take one, who would it be?' and this difference is carried out in the votes. Because you're right, Commodore is probably a better fit for the Wings. But Liles is the better player, and it's not even close. And just so you know...if the Wings DID get Liles, they wouldn't think twice about dropping Lebda. I do NOT understand the man-crush for Lebda on this board. Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 For the Wings, Commodore.. they need some large crunch power, and thus, my vote. Liles overall, though.
