Andreas Lilja's Resume

Just so happens that Lija's playoff mistakes just happen to finish with a playoff exit for the team.

Here's to hoping he got it out of his system for the year :) and that they don't dress him in a game that can finish the season the wrong way for the Wings

With all of this Lilja talk does anyone know anymore about his contract talks?

I know there was an offer out at about the same time as Cleary accepted his, but I never heard about Lilja's reasons for not inking his name.

Yeah I have a feeling he is holding out for more money, which wouldn't bother me if he walked, there is a log jam at 5-6 d-man on this team, much like there is at the back end of the forward lines.

Now that I think about it, what happened to the Wings who used to throw money at players, have they really started to *GASP* develop players!!!!!!

So much for buying championships!

from mlive

Holland also has tabled contracts talks with his remaining free agents until after the playoffs.

The list includes Brad Stuart, Chris Chelios, Andreas Lilja, Dominik Hasek, Aaron Downey, Mark Hartigan, Dallas Drake, Darren McCarty and Valtteri Filppula, the only one among the bunch who is restricted. Of the unrestricted players, only Chelios is certain to be back. The club would like to re-sign Stuart, but only if the price is right.

Lilja's game-losing defensive f*ckups:

Game six against Edmonton (2006)

Game five against Anaheim (2007)

Game three against Nashville (2008)

Enough of this guy. He won't learn. He never learns. He's lazy and he never changes that. God d!@#$

To clarify: this refers to him being out of position for the umpteenth time in the last three playoff years.

I find it really amusing that you of all people start this thread when you seem to captain the Positivity Police on here and feed on the opportunity to jump down people's throats and chew them out for even showing an inkling of being negative and pinning losses on scapegoats, and when you recently made a thread after a recent loss making fun of people who pull the scapegoat card.

You can come back at me with, "Well that's only when people are predicting doom-and-gloom or that a series or season is over, and because of reasons A, B, C, and D as well. Player ripping is a different situation and doesn't count." I know you are all about maintaining a good attitude more often than not, but you are being ridiculously hypocritical here in this thread by pinning Lilja as a scapegoat yourself when you jump all over people's cases for doing similar actions in other situations, and there is nothing you can say to convince me otherwise. Think about this the next time you go bonkers on people's cases the next time they might overpanic or place ridiculous amounts of blame on one person.

In terms of Lilja, yes the play, or lack thereof, on Arnott's goal is frustrating, but what can we do? It happened, we all have to put it behind us and move on from it. I may be wrong as I'm definitely not behind the scenes, but I highly doubt Babcock is going to make much noise in roster changes next game because of these two quick goals, at least in the knee-jerk overreaction style.

The flubbed pass last year against Anaheim in game 5, that can happen to anybody. Delay of game late in a game when it cost us a win at Edmonton that Lilja unfortunately commited, that can happen to anybody (see Radek Bonk, if I am not mistaken, in a recent Wings-Predators regular season game late in the 3rd period which helped give the Wings clinch the Presidents Trophy). It isn't just a "Lilja syndrome". Blowing a tire falling down skating, broken sticks, it's comparable to that to me and it happens to the best of people. Hell one of the regular season games we won at Anaheim this year, one of the Duck players was just trying to make a routine pass around their defensive blue line with little/no pressure by the Wings that certainly didn't look like the Wings would pick off or capitalize on in normal circumstances, and his stick broke on the pass attempt which led to a 2-on-1 and a Wings goal by Flipper and was the game winner I think. Unfortuante instance like this happens every now and then.

I don't remember whatever gaffe he might have had against Edmonton in the playoffs specifically.

It's not like the entire defense is just downright terrible on a consistent basis these first three games for a full 60 minutes, Lilja included. Just tighten up immediately after something might go south such as a goal to curb opposing momentum some. They are experienced enough to figure this out, Lilja included. I'll respect and understand and be in support of Babcock's decision if he goes with Lebda over Lilja next game, but Lilja is important for his penalty killing and blocking shots. The Wings need him this series and this year's playoffs.

Lilja is far from my favorite and he may make some bad brainfarts from time-to-time but he isn't solely responsible for some of the Wings recent losses or failures. You can blame Hasek for a questionable soft goal or possibly two, Stuart for hitting the post, Flipper for struggling so far, or a myriad of other things the Wings could or couldn't do in the grand scheme of things either last night or last playoff season or whatever.
