Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 Great, great game from Val last night. Opened the game with an early goal and his input on the OT winner shouldn't be underestimated. Good to see he's getting some recognition from the media. The Red Wings capitalized on a neutral-zone turnover early in overtime, as Valtteri Filppula, who scored at 4:20 of the first period, snuck up from behind on Predators defenseman Ryan Suter and forced a turnover. Niklas Kronwall picked up the puck and made a perfect pass to Franzen, who broke in alone on goaltender Dan Ellis and tucked a backhand shot just inside the far goalpost, just past the goalie's outstretched pad. Said Filppula: "I was just coming back from (being) on offense; I think D didn't know I was right behind him and I just tried to lift his stick and get the puck. Luckily it went right to Kronner and he made a great pass." Was really impressed watching the play unfold. He kept with the play and pressured the defenceman who eventually lost control and his teammate just had to push it up ice, which went to Kronwall and we all know what happened from there. I guess that’s why Flip gets top 6 minutes and is shown so much faith by Babcock and co!
Yemack 1 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 Filp switched into higher gear but I was really impressed with Kronner's pass. name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>&"> name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" />
Jamaica Jon 1 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 He also played generally very well the whole game. Generated multiple scoring chances and played well defensively, as usual. Great game by Flip! Easily his best game of the post-season, and it couldn't have come at a better time.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 (edited) I was really happy for flip last night, it was a great shot. I think he should have gotten first star over Franzen. He was responsible for both goals. If this starts flip's production, then we just need cleary to start doing well and we have a pretty awesome top 6. betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 I'm a little bit of a Flip slappy so it's nice to see that he's getting recognition - as he should - for creating the play that led to the GWG. I've said he's good for a flat-out-hustle goal at least once a series - that was it right there.
Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted April 19, 2008 Heres hoping he can repeat that tear he ahd when he scored like 10 goals in 8 games. Val has all the potentiol in the world, if he can ever get consistancy ( which i think will come in time) he will be a legit top 6 forward at last.
KDDRWINGS1 9 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 I watched that play unfold and the part where he lifted the guys stick seemed like it was in slo-mo to me and once the puck went to Kronner it was fast forward. Nice job Flip. I am so glad he's a Wing and it seems like his skills seem a little Pavelesk in nature. Hopefully in a few years he'll be close if he keeps improving like he has been. Now it's time for Hudler to catch up and realize his potential to.
puertoricanWingsfan 5 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 I've always maintained that Flip is one of the most underrated players on our squad. He may be a fourth liner, but the guy can really dangle. And as we saw last night, he can shoot the puck too. I've always loved the guy. Glad to see he's getting the recognition he deserves
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 Actually the real Filppula is the one we've been seeing the entire series: Hot and cold. Good thing hes still a youngster...

I agree completely, he really stepped it up last game. here's hoping he keeps it up through the rest of the playoffs.

FinRedWing 172 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 its one goal lol....he just missed an open net...back to the real flip now. Doesn't he have the same amount of goals scored in the playoffs than Ovechkin?
Gordie Howe hat trick 110 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 But that also comes with being a young player in the playoffs, the moment just got to him I'm sure.
Viperar 16 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 Doesn't he have the same amount of goals scored in the playoffs than Ovechkin? yes but if anyone has actually watched the philly caps series, ovechkin has done tons for opening up the slot and the spot in front of biron. Plus ovechkin has a couple helpers too. no comparison.
