redwinger4747 6 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Since Bertuzzi's season is now over, I thought we should review Holland's decision not to sign him to a 2-yr contract at 4 mil per year. Lets look at some stats from the regular season. Bertuzzi - 14-26-40 pts. Salary: 4.0mil To compare, lets look at some Red Wings with similar production: Cleary - 20-22-42 pts. Hudler - 13-29-42 pts. Samuelsson - 11-29-40 pts. Franzen - 27-11-38 pts. Filppula - 19-17-36 pts. Total combined salary: 4.6mil Now you tell me who is the better GM. Bertuzzi's playoff production of 0-2-2 pts. needs no comment.
Jamaica Jon 1 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Very nice. The Total Combined salary says it all. I'll admit I was upset when Holland chose to let him walk, but not when I heard he signed for $4M. Nice work Kenny. You have never/will never hear any bashing from me.

Jamaica Jon 1 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 bert and weight = wasted cap space Wasn't Weight brought in for cap RELIEF? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Burke traded McDonald (maybe others?) for Weight so he'd have enough cap room for Selanne and Neidermayer to return. Jamaica Jon 1 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 he was iam just saying weight sucks hahah it was like you didnt even notice him on the ice 9 games out of 10.. Well I won't argue with that... I thought that trade was one of the many bonehead moves Burke pulled this season. The Top 3: - Signing Bert for $4M/yr - Trading Andy McDonald for Doug Weight - WAIVING Ilja Bryzgalov (get SOMETHING for this guy! he went on to save a franchise!) The latter 2 can be blamed on the first + Neidermayer taking so long to decide on a comeback. He had no choice at that point, but really shouldn't have been in the situation to begin with. I sure noticed Stu Barnes step around 5.625M schneider to score the winning goal last night though . Burke did a great job with that signing also.

This was the dumbest IMO. Granted, he did try to move him, but his asking price was way too high. He's a genius idea Burke...lower your asking price instead of just waiving him. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Hey at least he didn't come close to killing anybody out there on the ice. Seriously, though, at this point in his career he's just a decent player, and actually has been for several seasons removed from his superstars days in Vancouver. Burke definitely overpayed him. I'm almost positive that Burke was one of the driving forces behind both Neidermayer and Selanne taking a break before rejoining the team. Burke and the Ducks deserve everything they got this year. AND, if the NHL does force a reduction in goalie gear he would have signed an overrated and unathletic tender to $6M+ longterm. I wonder how he'll like that deal when a slimmed down Giggy is letting in 5 goals a game. Burke might want to reconsider taking that Toronto gig.
akustyk 84 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 but... but... but... wasn't Burke the best GM in the league? I mean: the very, very, very unbeatably best among all the others? that's what ESPN's saying and TSN has been treating Brian as second coming of Jesus Christ :D just watched the highlights on TSN. the face of Burke seeing how his team get spanked - priceless! for everything else it's MasterCard
