kemosabi 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 Here's the Avs forums poll results on who they want to go up against in Round 2. http://forums.coloradoavalanche.com/index....showtopic=40413 The comments show that they have a lot of confidence in Jose Theodore. And they should. That goalie has been very impressive from about the beginning of March to present. (He did wonders for my fantasy-hockey team). Personally, I believe Theodore will give us a more difficult time than Ellis did.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 They've owned the Dallas Stars in the past, and they'd be fools to want to play the Wings instead of the Stars.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 It actually looks like they feel the same way as us. Wings/Avs would be great for old times' sake, but Avs/Stars would mean San Jose was out, etc. etc.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 This wolfy character has got it right on: "I want to play Detroit, not because I think we'll be able to beat one or the other easier, but because the hockey world deserves a Wings/Avs series." That's all it is.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 (edited) I think it's funny though that they think all they need to do is shut down Zetterberg and Datsyuk and the Wings will collapse under terrible goaltending and no scoring. Do they even watch Wings games? Heh. Not to mention shutting down both Z and Dats is nearly impossible for teams much better than Colorado. But yeah, the hockey world deserves a Wings/Avs series, but maybe it's best to hold off until the Conference Finals, where it would be even more epic. And I would say Ozzie is at an equal level or better than Theodore. Let's not forget that Hasek and Osgood both beat the Avs regularly, and the Wings have never really had a problem with Theodore. Knock on wood. Edited April 22, 2008 by VM1138
Opie 308 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 Lets see the Wings owned the Avs this year, 4-2 Hasek 1-0 Hasek 2-0 Hasek 4-0 Osgood That would be a sweep my friends, why on earth besides a dead rivalry would they want to face the Wings? When they have had a good amount of success against the Stars? I shouldn't be so harsh on the rivalry and maybe the additions of McCarty, Foote, and Floppa will engage some energy into the rivalry but for the most part the rivalry is dead and the Wings new rival is the Ducks. AVAL 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 Red Wings.................. IMO The Wings seem to get stronger in the later rounds. Opie one thing to keep in mind is in 95-96 the Av's only beat the Wings once that year.

Opie one thing to keep in mind is in 95-96 the Av's only beat the Wings once that year. Great point, but the same reason the rivalry is dead is the same reason that probably won't hold true, different players for both teams. You can count the number of players from those days for both teams on one hand (maybe 1.5). This more recent group has had a lot more success against Dallas, and I think Turco looked shakey at the end of that series, especially compared to how solid Ozzie looked. I know I would rather face Kipper who has showed weaknesses, than Jose who looks to be the hotter goalie right now. But then again I fear the forward group of Calgary a little more, as they are more physical. I really don't care because I think this Wings team has all the right pieces, that doesn't mean they will win, and I am more confident in this team than at any point last year in the post season. AVAL 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 Opie, You’re right you can count on one hand the players from those days. What I should of said is once in the playoffs the regular season seems to go out the window. I would also like to see the rivalry return to what it used to be and a playoff matchup should do it. 95-96 the rivalry didn’t get started until the playoffs. I’m not convinced that Theodore is a playoff caliber goalie by their series against the Wild. I think the guy is a fluke (I hope I’m wrong) and his play is based on the fact he is at the end of his contract.

When they have had a good amount of success against the Stars? Well, let's not forget a few things: 1.) Theodore is playing better now than in the regular season 2.) Sakic missed all four games between the teams 3.) Smyth and Stastny missed two of the games When you throw Foote and Floppa into the mix, the Avs and their fans probably feel like you can throw the first four games out the window--especialy in the playoffs. Not that this is what Opie is suggesting, but this would be far from an easy series. For the record, the Denver Post is running poll on their website that is currently 67.49% to 32.50% in favor of a Wings-Avs matchup.
