Just like the Masterton has become the "who-has-suffered-a-terrible-injury-and-come-back-to-hockey" award, so the Adams has become the "who-has-got-an-average-team-to-perform-above-average-for-one-season-usually-because-of-a-hot-goalie" award. pwning the rest of the league is rarely a consideration - in the past 20 years only 2 Presidents Trophy winners have won the Jack Adams (Bowman, and incredibly, Quenville). How's this scenarion (just a possibility no jinx involved): Wings wins the Prez Wings win the Cup Nick wins the Norris Pavs wins the Lady Byng Pavs wins the Selke Ozzie wins the Conn Smyth Babs wins the Jack Adams WOW. Rafalski replaced Schneider though, Bertuzzi had 0 impact on our team, and Markov (as much as I liked him) isn't that special. Lang is the only guy that could've potentially effected the team with his loss, I think. Even then, nobody was saying in October that Detroit had the roster to completely dominate the regular season. When Filpulla-Cleary-Samuelsson was our projected 2nd line, there were legitimate worries to be had. The guys bought into Babcock's system and they ended up playing some tremendous team defense to make that record happen. Babcock deserves it, but as I've said elsewhere, I don't think there's a chance he wins over Boudreau (who also did some amazing things). Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Opie 308 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 I think the reason Babs deserves this is the team defensive stats, he has this entire team playing all zones of the ice very hard. Lots of guys with great +/- numbers, The Jennings Trophy (A team award IMO), Pres trophy, 50+ wins again, one of the top teams in most statistical categories offensively and defensively. Sure this team had a good deal of offensive fire power, but I don't think anyone expected the D from the whole team to be this good. I credit Babs with instilling that work ethic in his players.
