sdogg1m 3 Report post Posted May 9, 2008 Did anyone else hear the VS announcer mention the draft selections of Holmstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterburg, and Franzen??? All extremely high and yet all of them are excellent players. The announcers asked the question: What does Kenny Holland know that the rest of the GMs do not? That would be my question; how in the world does a team draft SO WELL? I only wish the Lions could draft as well.
Gordie Howe hat trick 110 Report post Posted May 9, 2008 If you notice all of them are Europeans, and the Wings have the best European scouting staff in the league. I know they like to use their higher picks for players no one in the States has given much/if any attention to.
Bluedevils_13 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2008 We have 11 of 20 players drafted by us playing. That is amazing, and even 12 if you count Lebda sense we were his first team... that is just awesome.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted May 9, 2008 The answer is Hakan Andersson. Period. You could make the case that he is the one person most instrumental in the Wings' success. Any time the Wings unearth another Swedish diamond in the rough, and sometimes outside Sweden too, it was his scouting that did the deal. If not for Hakan Andersson, we don't have Z, Datsyuk, Franzen, Flip, etc.....he scouted those guys.
Opie 308 Report post Posted May 9, 2008 (edited) Didn't Hakan take responsibility for the Brunnstrom ordeal, claiming if he had done his work better Fabian would have been drafted by the wings, stating he had to go to a family event on a day he was supposed to see Brunnstrom play! Either way, the man has an eye for Hockey talent!! Edited May 9, 2008 by Opie
egroen 384 Report post Posted May 9, 2008 Hakan also could have had Enstrom -- but got lazy on the day he was supposed to see him and called the coach to let him know his intention (a coach who had Vancouver ties). Vancouver then trades up to before Detroit and gets him. Fire him!!!
