Something missing in the playoffs

Only a Wings fan could have his team up 2-0 in the conference finals and STILL ***** about how we got there.

It might be hard to believe after 15+ years, but there will be a point in the future where the Wings AREN'T freaking sweet, and you'll regret not enjoying this.

Can you imagine how bad the pissing and moaning will be then?

You say there is no desire to CRUSH a team. With Dallas, I want to be realistic and just win.

I would love to CRUSH whiny Pittsburgh and put them and their fans in their place. I cannot stand fricken eastern conference teams. Except for the Rangers and the Flyers I want to crush 'em all.

Jesus, all I hear, EVERYWHERE I GO, is the Penguins haven't lost yet... they're so good, Crosby will own you, Malkin will own you.

They need to be told.

I don't think we'll crush Pittburgh they way I thought we'd crush Colorado or Dallas. Those teams we've always crushed, while Pittsburgh we really don't know much about.

That could be a long, drawn out series. To me, they also look like a hungry team that won't settle for anything less than the Cup. The Wings and Penguins are the only 2 teams in the playoffs that I can say that about. Neither Dallas nor Philadelphia were even expected to make it this far.

Wings vs Pens COULD be an excellent series. Both high flying talented teams. As long as the officials don't carry them to the cup on their backs like they did the Ducks. Could turn out to be a travesty like the Steelers superbowl win.

If Dallas keeps playing garbage hockey like game two, we may just end up with an old fashioned rivalry after all. I almost hope they don't suspend that idiot just because that game would be electric and our guys would be playing with some fire in their bellies.

The Wings are on a 8-game win streak that dates back to an overtime Game 5 in the first round. And that's not good enough????? Are you seriously saying that if the Wings win the Cup this year, you're gonna look back on the 2008 playoffs and remember how bored you were?

I'm sorry some of you take no joy in watching the incredible skill guys like Datsyuk and Z have, even when it doesn't result in a goal. Too bad you're missing out on the pure hustle that Flip uses to outrace guys to the puck and draw penalties (it led to a key power play goal in Game 1, remember?) What a shame you root for the finest hockey club in the world and you can't enjoy it when they use all three layers, from forward to defenseman to goalie, to so thoroughly suffocate the opposition's attack that they can't even muster 5 shots in goal in 20 minutes.

I agree. I only like fights if it's justified, and not if it's just for the hell of it. I don't want to see players get hurt by a stupid hits, I'd rather see teams go at it face to face, man to man.

This year's playoffs have been outstanding. None of those annoying 7 and 8 seeds advanced past the first round, keeping the quality of hockey very high.

I don't know if i agree with the end of this. When Detroit lost to both Anaheim and Edmonton at 8 seeds, those teams continued to prove themselves and for Edmonton, they made it to the cup finals. I love to see the Detroit Anaheim series and the sharks stars games but for those teams to make it to where they did shows how you cannot guarantee any game in the playoffs. (not saying the wings did, but in general)

The wings are playing smart hockey. They are up 2-0 in the series. Why give Dallas anything to feed off of? If the hit is there, we take it. We will not fight or hit just for the sake of it. We have 1 goal only and that is to win the cup. The way we are playing now is giving us the best shot at that goal. Why risk injury by attempting to hit everything thats in another color jersey? Why risk putting your team shorthanded because you decided to charge or board someone into next week? The wings know what they are doing, they are playing effective, puck-possession, smart hockey. We demoralize the opponent by not letting them have scoring opportunities, by keeping the puck away from them, and by showing that we can roll 4 lines that can do all of the above. Our style is one of perfection in passing, defense, efficiency, and capitalizing on mistakes and opportune scoring chances. If you want goon hockey, go catch Dr. Emmit Brown and borrow his DeLorean.

I don't think we'd crush the Pens either. I'd love too though.

Really, I just think it would be great playoff hockey.

Why do some people see in every sport the only way to enjoy it is it win?

The game I most enjoyed all season this year was the 4-3 loss to the Jackets...because it was fast, physical, emotional, 2 fights, scoring and yet we lose but Ive never seen a more enjoyable game.

Ah well... I guess some people would rather watch a pass pass skate skate pass shoot get-run-and-do-nothing-about-it skate 1-0 win than a game like that...sad.

I guess people just have different ways of enjoying a game... thing is people always say we have no rivalries these days...we are also a soft team these days...and our only small rivalry with the ducks is because of the physicality in the few games.

Ive been watching Scrubs and have now forgotten what my original point was or what I replying to so I'll just say hail Downey. Hail him.
