The media really pisses me off. He has a headache thats persistent. He has no other symptoms. Usually concussion symptoms are a bit more detailed than just a headache IE: dizzyness, nausea, vertigo, ataxia, memory loss. For all we know it could be another injury or as simple as a sinus infection or undiagnosed upper respiratory infection.....................lets not jump to conclusions. I would be really surprised if he misses more than 1 game.

The next game is Monday in Dallas and he has a Dr. apt. Tuesday in Detroit. He's not making the trip to Dallas so he'll miss game 3 for sure. So, best case secnario, he misses TWO games.

I would be surprised if he misses 2. Would you keep your best scorer idle if and when he is cleared to play. Say he sees the Dr. as you say on Tuesday and is cleared...... wouldn't you fly him out before game 4 ?

Here's to hoping that it is just something simple and not post-concussion things. I am sure we can win the games without Franzen but I would love him to be there to play. He's such a great player.

And please do not inflict pain upon Franzen in effort to keep him scoring. Remember that he stepped it up back in March, not the beginning of the Colorado series

Is there a doctor in the house?

What's the difference between a concussion and concussion like symptoms? From what I know of concussions, it's the kind of injury that a player never recovers from, since it's easy to get re-injured with another concussion, just like Eric Lindros or Steve Young.

All the "doctors" on here are full of diagnoses as well as analyses of what it all means to the Wings' chances. No one seems to be talking about Franzen's well-being. Personally, when I hear about persistent headaches without (as far as we know) any of the other symptoms of a concussion, I start getting worried that it could be something more serious (not that a concussion in itself isn't very, very serious). Let's hope it turns out to be nothing serious, but based on what he reported to the team, sitting him out and running as many tests as necessary is absolutely the right thing to do. No one with the Wings should or will be trying to rush him back until he's been properly diagnosed.

*cracks knuckles to type for a while*

I'm a medical student. My current course of study is Neuroscience, particularly brain-based injuries. I am not a physician, but I know concussions fairly well. There is a long list of things that could conceivably explain persistent headaches, including a pinched nerve in the neck, an actual concussion, stress, or others. If headaches are the only symptom he is showing, my instincts are telling me that it's more likely a pinched nerve in his neck, and possibly something that could be fixed either by massage or the Rolf technique.

He should definitely sit game 3 for testing. If the testing comes back negative, then it could be considered that he could play for game 4.

I think we all want Franzen to be well. But at the same time we all want him in the line up because he gives us a better chance of winning. I think it's just odd that its been happening for a while and he's still been playing. Why wouldnt he have said anything during the week off if it kept happening? The good part is he hasnt felt dizzyness while working out and all that. Hopefully he can get some time off and we can get by Dallas without him and he can re join us for the Cup. It is the right thing to do by sitting him right now tho until further tests are done.

^ his appointments on monday. so technically its not between game 3 and 4 :P

The Freep said he's only missing Game 3 for sure. If he checks out he'll be flown out to Dallas to join Game 4.

But if the pain is getting worse as time goes on I doubt he'll be fine for Game 4.

But the Wings are a machine, and they may not score as much, but as long as they score enough, I'll be happy.

Hope Mule gets better soon!

I don't know depending on how fast they are in the wait room he might not get seen until game 3 is over!

I think the game 4 talk is a typo/error on the part of the writer. That's the only story that mentioned anything about game 4, and it only mentioned games 3 and 4, not even game 2. I think he meant to write, games 2 and 3.

I wikipediaed concussions and the only real explanation I can think of for why they might not perform the test immediately aside from a lazy/busy doctor is that they may be administering tests over time to try and detect variations in the readings. I guess a lot of time, professional athletes receive a test prior to the season to get a baseline neurological reading, so that it is easier to determine whether such an injury has occurred during the course of the season. The fact that Franzen didn't mention any of the symptoms when they first appeared supports this because it gave them no time to test for variations in the reading. That gap after the Colorado series probably would've been a good time for him to bring it up...

Anyword on Franzen? I sure hope the mule is ok. I am not sure they should even play him if he is healthy, just let him heal up fully. But just am worried for the guy and am dying to hear if he is ok. Babcock said in the post-game that he would hear after they left AAC. But no word publically yet????

I hope he does not have anything broken and the they are just using "concussion like symptoms" to cover it up.

- Edit

Never mind, I saw LidstromIsASuperhero post and that would make more sense why they have not released info too the public.
