GDT: Pens-Flyers - Game 2

In regards to Malkin's occasional dirty play, I think it has come from some frustration in these playoffs, not that there has been too much need for frustration. This is exactly what Malkin was like in the World Junior tournament, especially against Canada, but I haven't seen much of it again until recently. He'll grow out of that.

I only caught half the game, but in terms of someone saying there was a weak call on Hatcher, not sure if it the same one that I saw, but if it was cross-checking on Staal, then there is no way that was a weak call, he was a few inches from cross-checking him across the face. Also, Hatcher got away with a ton of dirty s*** in this game, and I only saw half of it. Smith gets the odd dirty play in too...and gets away with it.

If you ever spend some time just watching players away from the play, lots of guys do little dirty things now and then that go unoticed, but none if it is too bad where someone is going to get hurt.

Still, no defense, just 2 teams with offense and goalies trading chances, no huge hits not many take aways, cant wait to play one of them in the SCF.

Well, I think Pittsburgh has been playing incredible defense in these playoffs. In terms of hitting, I thought there was a lot of big hits in tonight's game. Not an indication of "big hits", but in terms of numbers, there is more hitting in this series than in the Dallas vs. Detroit series.

That is SOOO crazy that you mention that. A few days ago me and my hockey buddy were talking and I was talking to him about how I would LOVE to put a sensor along the goal line and then another along the bottom of the crossbar. And then put something in the hockey puck so that if there was ANY question they could use some kind of imaging in TO to see if it is TRULY a goal. Too bad I'm not smart enough to do that kinda s***.

I'm just surprised with all the technology we have today the NHL couldn't do SOMETHING with sensors, as you mentioned Tennis has cyclops!

Yeah! And while we're at it, we could get all those dirty, sweaty GUYS off of the ice! Hey....we could get rid of the ICE, too! Use the space being taken up by these silly NHL arenas for more shopping malls and parking lots!

Let's just take everything 'human' out of the game altogether. We could simulate everything, and broadcast the SimGames over the internet, or on HD Pay-Per-View! And HEY!....wouldn't that be a GREAT way for fans to have a REAL impact on the 'games'? Hold some sort of contest and let the winning fan from each SimTeam actually take the VirtualIce along with his SimTeammates.

No more human errors, then. No sir! Also......

No more blood. No more sweat. No more missing teeth.

No more shouts of jubilation. No more groans of disappointment. No more cursing.

No more tears of agony as the Cup slips through your fingers in the dying seconds of the closing Game of the Finals.

No more tears of pure joy as you raise 35 lbs worth of your lifelong dream over your head in Victory.

Of course......we won't need the actual Cup anymore, either. It could be melted down and put to a much more practical use.

Definitely much "cleaner", much more "precise" this way.

I don't know. Some of those things seem a little radical. Something to help judge goals correctly should do for now.

We'll look at your ideas later.

Incredible? Good for their team maybe but I think incredible may be putting it a little strongly.

Can't wait to play them. If the officiating is not too over the top in their favor should be a great series.

I disagree, 32 shots? nearly double what we have been letting teams get on us. Its 80-20 their goalies great play that has made up lack of a great (and deep) Defense. As for the amount of hits, I dunno what youve been drinking but last game Dallas/Detroit there were over 50 hits, which is a lot for Detroit and Dallas, (even more surpirising is that its 70-30 in detroit's favor).

I have'nt put too much thought into it but, is there no way that some sort of sensory device can be placed either along the goal line, on the post's, inside the puck etc that could accurately tell if the puck has crossed the line, regardless of whether there's bodies on top, gloves in the way etc etc.

Tennis has cyclops to determine if a ball is in or out is there nothing similar that hockey could use? lol

FOX Sports puck tracker from 10 years ago?? I'm pretty sure they had something insside the puck for that technology.

I've actually had this idea that I've talked about with my family while watching hockey games... it would make everything SO easy for the refs and the "war room" in Toronto!

No, it was a "hook" on Malkin they called that was the bad call.

Oh and hey, wouldn't it be fantastic to use a smart puck? It would make it a lot easier for home viewers to visualize a glowing puck, and it would look so cool to have a blue comet trail following the action.

Wait. Oh. NM.

alright ive been watching this game (as well as all the playoff games this year and i just am getting sick of seeing Crosby's playoff "dirty Sanchez" Stache. The kid is 21 years old, shouldnt he be able to grow some decent facial hair? or atleast have the decency to shave it off knowing he looks like pedro from Napolean Dynamite? Its humerous, but at a point it just becomes sad...

I went to the local to watch the game, still some PenFan fisherman there, Wonderful guys, only gave me a little razz when I got pumped over the Richards goal... I razzed them back about Sid's caterpillar 'stache, (they said, "Give him a break, he's too young to grow anything but peach fuzz!") and got this great story back.

One of the Pen guys has a friend who owns a liquor store. Crosby came in and tried to buy some vodka, and the owner told him, "C'mon, Sidney-- everyone in this state knows how old you are, I can't possibly let you buy this. Go home and raid Mario's wine cellar!"

Hey, don't be so hard on fox and their genius. As soon as they took away the glowing puck, all the boneheads had to go back to watching baseball or some other slow ass game they could keep up with. :P

You are right, they are playing "incredible" defense "for them" since they have been known to be poor in that area, but I think that has been a bit overblown. They have been playing pretty good D all year and have turned it up in the playoffs. Their D is not as good as Detroit's, but I don't think any team has the type of D that Detroit has.

What have I been drinking? I had a beer yesterday, but other than that, just water, thanks for asking. It's nice that there were over 50 hits in the last Detroit vs. Dallas game, last night's Philly vs. Pittsburgh, there were 78 hits.
