Doggy 130 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 Trust me, Pens are in no way disrespecting the Red Wings. Some, in fact, think the Wings will win (objectively speaking, of course.) Datsyuk and Zetterberg are scary, Franzen is damn good too. The Wings would be the best team the Penguins will have faced, and vice versa. I have nothing but respect for the Red Wings, and by no means do I think the Penguins would walk through them. I haven't been on this board for 24 hours yet, but it seems to me that some on here think the Penguins will just be brushed aside easily. I honestly believe Dallas, Detroit, Anaheim and San Jose are all better than every Eastern conference team. I highly doubt Pittsburgh could beat any of them in a 7 game series. And that's me as unbiased as I can be because Pittsburgh is my second favourite team, Mario is my third favourite player of all time, I have a Crosby jersey and HATE the Ducks, Stars and to a lesser extent, the Sharks. I've watched dozens of Pens games this year because of my love for the team so I'm speaking with a fair bit of confidence here. If that's worth anything to anyone. No way will Detroit lose to Pittsburgh. They will have a Cup (or more) within the next few years though.
McCartyFanForLife 17 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 Pens fan here. Wings fans, do not underestimate this Pens team. They can play run-and-gun, tight defense, however you want to play. With the gamebreakers the Penguins have, they don't need many chances to score. The defense and Fleury are overlooked by everyone. You have every reason to be confident right now, but the Penguins are more than capable of knocking off the Wings in a seven-game series. Actually most teams are more than capable of knocking off any team in a 7 game series. The question is whether or not it will be forced to a game 7... highly unlikely

No way will Detroit lose to Pittsburgh. They will have a Cup (or more) within the next few years though. i agree again. im being unbiased too. I dont like alot of the teams in the west...and i was really rooting for the rangers and canadiens to make it out of the east, but they wouldnt have stood a chance either against any of the teams from the west...eg Anaheim (whom i dislike as well). I'm not positive Pitts will win the cup in the next few years, but it looks promising. Alot of people are talking about how hard its going to be for them to keep this team together with the cap, and more immediately how much Malkin is going to require now (which will be alot more than Sid The Vid pusher) Alot of things can happen to a team from one year to the next positive or negative. If its positive moves from this year on, I would agree they probably will win a cup. And for the record I don't hate pitts, and while im not a fan...i was rooting for them for a few years, when mario came out of retirement, bought the franchise, was attempting to stop the team from folding or moving...i was all for them then just because of their spirit...i think that was the time when Kasperitis was doing his playoff sliding breaststroke on the ice during the first rounds of the playoffs lol. that was cool. GOOOOOOOOOOO WINGS! Edited May 14, 2008 by Wingsor
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) I honestly believe Dallas, Detroit, Anaheim and San Jose are all better than every Eastern conference team. I highly doubt Pittsburgh could beat any of them in a 7 game series. I think the Wings would definately be the favourite in the Finals against the Pens, no question, but I think this idea that the Western conference is so much better than the Eastern conference is a bit of a myth. Again, I'm not saying the Pens will win, but I think they should probably be given a little more respect than they are getting. Their record during the regular season against Western conference teams was 8-1-1. Included in those 8 wins were wins against Dallas and Anaheim, they didn't play Detroit. They lost 3-2 to Colorado (no Hossa and no Fleury in the lineup) and they lost 2-1 in a SO to San Jose (no Hossa, no Crosby and no Fleury in the lineup). I don't care who they are playing against, a record of 11-1 so far in the playoffs is nothing short of impressive. It doesn't matter how weak you think a team is, generally, all teams are strong enough to at least win some games against better teams every now and then. Pens record (11-1), Wings record (11-2), very, very impressive for both teams. Edited May 14, 2008 by toby91_ca
