I've got tix for Game 1. We plan to arrive to Detroit on Sat afternoon and leave the next day.

Can anyone recommend a hotel within reasonable distanse to the Joe, and good places to eat/hang out before the game?

I know that this was asked before, but I couldn't find that old topic.

Thanks a lot.

Honestly anywhere cheep in the D will be accompanied by hookers and dealers. I would look to Dearborn to stay. Unless you want to drop a nice dime for the casino. Eat... I think Cheli's Chili would be great for pens fans. Or possibly Mickey's Broadcast Booth in Allen Park.

No Pens fan, I .

I'm coming from Ohio. :P

So downtown hotels like Sheraton Riverside are not good, then?

Good but very expensive. I guess it depends on what you want to spend. I know that one night in Dearborn will run $70ish and downtown will run in the hundred's. What do I know though?

Might want to stay out in the suburbs. Try St. Claire Shores. It is my hometown, and it is a great city somwhat close to Detroit.

For food, there are great resturants in Greektown like Pegasus or Pizza Papalis.

Or, just get some Little Ceasers.

When I travel to the area, I typically stay in Dearborn. I like the hotels there. I have stayed at the Ritz Carlton and the Hyatt. Though they can be a little pricey, but safe, and Cheli's is not far.

Can't go to Detroit without hitting Pizza Papalis. Best pizza I have ever had. The Sheraton is on the riverside walkway to the Joe. A couple of my friends stayed there and I met them there to go to a playoff game last year. Somehow ended up in walk-a-thon on the way to Joe but all was good (except for the Wings losing that game).

I have a feeling there are going to be a ton of Pitt fans at the games at JLA.

ofc, Detroitians are apathethic and the Pens are the current bandwagon

so the press say anyway

Its going to be really hard to find hotel rooms in downtown because Detroit is going to get invaded this weekend? By who you ask?

THIS COMING WEEKEND IS GOING TO BE CRAZY IN DETROIT! Those Zombies from Europe are coming for Techno Fest!!!! Downtown is going to be crazy. Saturady night in Detroit is going to be crazy; your going to have the Stanley Cup finals, with the biggest techno fest right down the street! Not to mention NBA conference finals in the suburbs in the same time! Oh and the Tigers are playing too!! :colorbounce:

I would say come stay at the hotel I work at, its only 4 blocks from the Arena, but were totally booked!

With the TechFest, Memorial Weekend, and several teams playing I would have to stay stick to the suburbs as well. Area's like St. Clair Shores, Fraser, Roseville, Clinton Township, Sterling Heights, will keep you within a half hour from the city and will be reasonably priced without the sacrifice of safety. Anywhere left in the city limits at this point in time is probably not a good bet due to bad location. As for food, downtown near the casinos and on Woodward there are alot of good places to eat. Another thought would be possibly getting a room on the other side of the river in Windsor (Canada) which is maybe 15 mins away from the Joe.

Friends and I went for game 2 of round 3, so just last week. We got our hotel through Priceline, with the Name Your Own Price deal. We scored a room on the 49th floor of the Marriott Renaissance for only $80 a night! It's a few blocks from the Joe, tons of stuff to do in the hotel itself, a People Mover (monorail) stop right outside the front door, and GREAT views of both downtown Detroit and Windsor. We were all very pleased with the staff in general, and the beds are unbeatable. Plus, not being Detroit savvy whatsoever, we were completely able to find our way around, mostly by use of the People Mover. So yeah, hit up Priceline for a room. It's guaranteed 3 star for the price that's accepted!

Our favorite places to check out were Fishbones in Greektown, Chelis and Hockeytown Cafe of course.

I live in Troy. It's about 25-30 minutes from the Joe, not too bad. I've seen a lot of teams staying at the Troy Mariott over the years, so you might have the luck of running into someone. It's a clean city and very safe. There's also a ton of places to eat in Troy. If you wanted to eat someplace in Detroit, you might want to try Hockeytown Cafe and be surrounded by your fellow hockey fans! Also, Windsor has a lot of nice places if you feel like bringing your passport. Greektown is nice too.

Troy Marriott is a great hotel and its right next to the best mall in metro-Detroit! But its booked for this weekend too. And you don't need passport to head to Windsor, Canada for right now. It terms of Casinos, Greektown isn't the best one, you gotta go see MGM Grand. Its like a strip off of Vegas.

edit; there booked for Saturday night, but still have a few rooms for Friday night.
