I don't know what they first started saying, but when Ozzie started asking him something then Turco said something, I swore they said:

Osgood: So...what's your favorite, the front 9 or the back 9?

Noticed that Turco basically ignored the last thing Ozzie said to him. Classless but does not surprise me coming from Turco. If Turco said backup then he might be predicting his own future.

I wouldn't read much into it. Turco's probably mad at losing the series which is natural. If you watch others shake hands, some of them say nothing to each other. They only do it because they're expected to. If they had their way, they'd just skate off without it. Belfour did it in 95 after the Wings beat the Hawks in OT. I seen Tiger Williams do it back in the late 70's after the Leafs got beat by Montreal in the playoffs. Some just take it personal. I noticed when Ott and Ozzie shook hands, Ott gave Ozzie the slap on the chest like a job well done.

Maybe it was just me - when Turco first shakes his hand he looks Ozzy directly in the eye, nods and says something inaudible. Then as he is passing Ozzy asks him a question and I swore he said - "not as a backup"

Ozzy could have asked him if he was going to play with team Canada....

It didn't seem strange to me. Turdco had just been eliminated from the playoffs. I wouldn't expect him to be jumping for joy. I'm sure if he made a "backup" comment he was joking.
