So today I went with a friend of mine to buy an octopus for the game at Superior Fish in Royal Oak. We were standing at the counter waiting for the octopus and a guy came up to me and asked, "So is this the first time you've done this?" I told him it was my first time and it turned out he was a writer from Sports Illustrated.

We talked for about five minutes and he asked me some questions about the Wings and JLA. He gave me his card and asked for my name phone number, too. Then he asked when I'd be going to the game and told me he wants to meet up to talk some more before the game -- so my friends and I are meeting him at the Joe at around 7:30.

Incredible luck. I hope we end up in his article.

Very cool. I wish you luck.

Just a word of advice: Leave your octopus with another friend just in case this is one of Bettman's evil minnions stalking fish places in an ambush attempt. I put nothing past that man.

On the up side, maybe having a reporter with you will help you get in unhindered. Press pass and all.

Just got back from the game. The guy called me when we were on the way to the game and told me to call him when we got there. We called him when were at the bottom of the stairs and he came out to ask us some more questions. At the time I had the octopus in a plastic bag in the back of my pants. So my friends and I talked to him for a while and he told us to meet him by our section at around 7:50. We all went in, waited for 7:50 to come around and he gave us another octopus to throw. So my two friends each threw one.

We met with him a couple times during intermission and he asked us some more questions then we left. Hopefully we end up in SI!

Your article made it, although you aren't mentioned Adam, (I'm assuming your friend is Derek in the article). Its the last page of the 6/2/08 issue where Rick Reilly's column used to be.

Pretty good article

Hey guys, I just remembered this thread so I thought I'd give you an update. You were right, redwings1914, the article is on the last page of the 6/2 SI. Unfortunately I got the shaft, but my friend did end up making it in. His name is Derek. Price lied about the octopus. I was the one who put the octopus in my pants. He carried his in in a bag.

A great story. Thank you for sharing it with us. I remember reading on another site how someone was giving instructions on how to 'pack a pi' so that security could not find it. Hilarious! I never get tired of those stories.
