Pavel becoming our next leader?

I hate to get deep here, but after thinking for 24 hours about what transpired in game 2, I'm wondering. Are we witnessing Dat's emergence as one of the Wings next leaders? At some point(unfortunately)when Lid's and others are gone this will probably be Dat's & Hank's team. Am I wishful thinking, dreaming things or may Dat's stepping up last nite, be his stepping into role of a team leader over and above how he plays? I think he's had the benefit of great veterans who have shown that you can be a leader by how you play and rise above that type of crap, but even the great ones still need to get their hand dirty sometimes. I don't expect that nite in and nite out, but I just get the feeling he felt he needed to send a message to not just the Pens but to everyone else including his teammates. Thought's?

I think you're watching the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly. For years, Pasha has been quietly staying in the background, watching everyone else get the attention. I think he's finally realizing that this is his time too. I'm proud of him for what he did last night. It's a sign of maturity. He may not be captain one day, but I think he's definitely leaving a permanent imprint on this team.

I still think he's going to end up better than Zetterberg when it all shakes down. I don't know if he'll be captain, but he's a sure-fire leader at this point, a great two-way player and he just seems to be getting better and better at everything. I'm thinking Osgood's pretty close to having the Conn Smythe locked down, but if not, I'd like to think that Dats would have a fighting chance for it. I think he's been far more important and consistent than people realize this year.

Seeing Datsyuk fight (also sticking up for Hank earlier in the period) was my favorite part of the game last night. He has become such a complete player. I'm not saying I want to see him fight every game, we definately don't want to see him in the box or getting hurt, but it's nice to see him say "we aren't putting up with that sh*t". For six years he has been pushed around and now he is saying "enough". As for him one day being captain, I don't really see it happening, not that he wouldn't make a good captain. I just don't think he really wants it. I think he would be happy for Hank to get the C. He doesn't seem all that comfortable giving interviews, making speeches, or doing all the ceremonial things that the captain will have to do. I know we are talking about a few years down the road, but from what I have heard, he is a shy, quiet guy. It isn't just his poor english that keeps him from doing more interviews.

Dats would be a great capt. but as it was said before I think he would be happier for Z to get it. He just goes out there and plays and if need be shows the team how they need to get it done.

Pavel's already a leader on this team- that's why they gave him the A. I'm sure he'll continue to be an important leader on the team for years to come, regardless of Z's C. Every Yzerman needs his Shanny and his Lidstrom.

Z will get the C (IMO I have no inside info)

D will get an A

Zetterberg will be Yzerman and Dats will be Shanny!!!!

Dats already is showing the sense of humor that may Shanny a crowd favorite where ever he played!

As everyone said, this is Hank's team to lead, he has the personality for it, hes more out going, more attractive to the media, etc. But Pavs brings a great presence to the ice, and will definately have an A on his jersey until the day he hangs it up.

Zetterberg will be the next captain, but Pavel is a great leader in his own right. The Wings couldn't go wrong with either, IMO.

Agreed but either would be fine by me.
