Another ding, another story.

"And THIS one is from '08, when a buncha Wings Players took it to Chelios' place so the fans could drink from it."

Like Stevie's many, MANY scars.... Each and every one of them with a Warrior's Tale to go with it.

And each one made beautiful by either the earning, or by the surviving, of it.

Oh the things that have happened to that cup over the years. I recall when Tampa one it, and a family friend who played for that team, (he also palyed on the Pens squad this year, haha) brought the cup home. After his night with the cup, he was freaking out because he didnt know where it was, and where was it ...

... at the bottom of the pool! hahaha.

Come on people, it's DETROIT. Aren't there 1000 Metal shops and mechanics every block that would be honored to take dents and dingers out of lord stanley's cup? (for a nominal fee, of course)

aw that's so cute that you actually think there are businesses left in detroit. especially ones that aren't liquor stores, pawn shops or (oddly enough) restaurants w/the word ham in their name.

Isn't it a replica of the Cup that is given to the players and the real one's in the Hall of Fame? I might be wrong but I thought that all the trophies given out in the NHL are replicas to prevent the original ones getting broken or lost.

im pretty sure i read somewhere that the replica is at the hall of fame.i sure wouldnt want to be hoisting a replica if a was a player, you play to win and touch the real deal.

Yes, the players are presented the real one. The replica is at the HHOF

Well, actually, the original one from way, way back when is retired to the HHOF. An "authenticated" one was made in '63 I think that is now presented to the players and an exact replica is also on hand at the HHOF year round for display purposes. So really, there's 3.

yeah...

the oringal stanley cup (dominion trophy) which is JUST the bowl at the top was retired in 1963 because it became too brittle. a authenticated replica was made and that has been used ever since.

there is another replica (without the spelling errors) which is only ever displayed at the HHOF when the cup is out and about..

the one going around is the ACTUAL stanley cup from 1963

Thanks for the information. I propably confused it to the Finnish League championship trophy, which has been replaced with replicas many times as players have broken it while celebrating. It's no wonder as this trophy has wooden parts and resembles the Memorial Cup. Stanley Cup looks like it's been made for hockey players to celebrate with it.

I remember after the 97 cup the wings played in Toronto and we went that weekend to the HHOF... there was a huge deal being made how the cup on display there for that weekend was the exact cup the Yzerman lifted over his head! Damn nice to kiss that one :)
