Question: Will the Wings sign a big name free agent?

And something along those lines would obviously be preferable.

All I'm saying is that I can see Kenny going for Campbell, not that I necessarily think he should.

If that was a response to me:

I wholeheartedly agree, the last thing I pretend to know is what Holland and Co will do! I'd have better luck guessing Power ball numbers!

That is just how I see it shaking out. Bare with me here I know Z's contract isn't up this year, but if they sign Campbell he is just entering his prime, they better sign him to a 5 year deal or more. Which would definitely impact the Cap going forward with Z and Mule.

When Hossa says he's willing to take less money to stay in Pittsburg he really means Detroit.

I have a really hard time seeing the wings land Hossa, of course you take a shot at him, I mean what is to lose, but I just don't see them spending that much for what would be (on this team) a secondary scoring option.

Who knows maybe he takes the wing on the first line and they split up ZDH, wouldn't be bad at all.

But I see teams, Pit Mon, with much bigger needs for a front line scoring option and therefore they will throw mad $$ at him.

Between Z and Mule, I think the real question mark is the latter. Hank will get something around 7, but I'm really interested to see what Mule ultimately gets.

Mule? $3m per for a few years.

My question would be does Mule do the wings a favor and sign July 1, or does he do the smart thing by him and play this year with impending UFA status and potentially make himself some serious loot.

I mean does he strike while the Iron is hot, or does he think the iron gets hotter next year?

LOL, Hossa a secondary scoring option on this team. You are joking right? Do you have any clue how much hell Hossa would create in the NHL with Pavel dishing the puck to him? I've been following Hossa for years and years and years and years now, he's been my favorite player for some time. He would be the purest scorer on this team. He scores more points than Feds did in 94 (120 points btw) on this team. Plain and simple; Hossa puts the stamp on this team being a dynasty (although they really already are).

I was just joking however, as much as I would love to see Hossa in a Red Wings jersey it's just not going to happen. If Hossa was smart he takes less money to come to D-Town but it won't happen.

If Franzen isn't signed before the season starts and he gets off to a torrid start(like averaging more than a point per game), his value might get up to 4.5-5 million.

If he gets back to averaging near a point per game, then he will have, I think, established himself as one of the top power forwards in the NHL. That title inherently commands big bucks, and I would imagine he could fetch at least $5 million -- that is, if the Wings haven't already inked him.

Like I said, it will be veeery interesting watching this one play out.

As for Sundin...I think the only way he comes here is for cheap and for one year, maybe with some incentives thrown in for good measure. Would he up for that? My gut says no, but I've got to think it's tempting.

He would certainly be a monstrous addition. There's no question there. Imagine the potential scoring lines....

ZDH

Mule - Sundin - Flip

That's just...wrong. Gah!

I'd say keep ZDH together and put Hossa on the second. Then you've got the best line in hockey followed up by Valtteri Orr flanked by a gritty 6'3 fast-as-hell goal-scoring machine on his left and an even faster, clutcher, more experienced 6'2 two-way sniper who almost singlehandedly took the Wings to seven games on his right.

I don't see the point of paying a player $7 million to play on the second line (and anybody who thinks Hossa will take a mammoth pay cut to play for a contender is delusional).

That's why it's a pipe dream. :hehe:

That it is. All summer I will be dreaming about finally, finally getting my Hossa Wings jersey. Only for it to turn into a nightmare and the Wings somehow acquiring Dandenault

Hossa's no fool - we know Detroit was interested at the trade deadline but didn't want to give up someone like Flip ... I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit and Pitts were his top two picks as he's stated he's looking to be on a contending team. Now it all depends on how much he's willing to sacrifice, both for money and contract length - and he has to either way to stay in Pitts or move here.

Even the thought makes the mind reel... it's just not very likely considering all the core they have to sign next Summer. At some point every winning player like Z or Dats has to feel like they are worth sacrifice on the team's budget as well... not a one-way street. And I like to believe they want Franz bad enough to let any big name UFA pass by this year.

Isn't Cleary friends with Hossa or something? Call him up Danny Boy!

Whoa since when is cleary friends with Hossa? How did this happen?

But if we are talking about friendship here, dare i do another Rolston plug? I think so ... here we go

Brian Rafalski... how does he know Rolston? Well aside from sharing the same first name, they are both from Michigan, but ontop of that they both played together in NJ and won a cup together, so if anyone is alling anyone we better get Rafalski on the phone with Rolston and get him in a wings uniform, i dont think it will take to much convincing.....
