Nev 1,085 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 Given the new, improved Dats we saw in this years playoffs - y'know, the one who goes into scrums to defend Zetterberg, the one who fights with Roberts and yells "Bulls***!" at Refs when they disallow perfectly legit goals - will he retire from the NHL with the current 3 Lady Byngs? Spinner 6 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 Given the new, improved Dats we saw in this years playoffs - y'know, the one who goes into scrums to defend Zetterberg, the one who fights with Roberts and yells "Bulls***!" at Refs when they disallow perfectly legit goals - will he retire from the NHL with the current 3 Lady Byngs? I think Dats can win more Lady Byngs and still keep up the aggresive play he showed us in the playoffs. He smart and his hits are legal. My only concern is that since he's stepped it up in that department, are there going to be more people out there trying to take him out.
selkie 10 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 From what he said last night, I don't think Pavel thinks he's going to get another Byng in the near future. Read his words as you will.

My only concern is that since he's stepped it up in that department, are there going to be more people out there trying to take him out. He was targeted by many people well before his physical play started. Guys are always going to hit the skill guys to see if they can get them off their game a little. Now, Dats just hits back.....but I don't think he'll be targeted any more than he already was/is.
Kira 451 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 The thing is, he plays a smart game. He knows when to give a legal hit and when not to. He may give some damage, but you know as well as I do that he'll not endanger the team or the game by doing something stupid at the wrong time. Fear not, I think it's safe to say he will be just as smart and as sneaky as ever.
58Miles2Joe 12 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 He will not win it again. He's talked about getting stronger with a wicked gleam in his eye in the past. In this year's playoffs I think he got his hitting-lust whetted, and I don't think it'll stop. He's coming into his own right now; next year we'll have a monster on our hands. Slave 31 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 Dats almost a brough tears of pride to my eyes many times this playoff run with sticking up for Z and at the end of the pitts game 2 i think when we was throwing down in the scrum. I agree he is gonna be a monster, could take the art ross next year too. every thing he does is legal and as much as was throwing around he never took cheap shots or played dirty so i think he can win plenty more lady byngs

Cicada 4 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 i think he might of got a taste for hitting people now.. i'd expect him to be more physical next year, which will probably rule out another byng
David 2 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 He mentioned in an interview that he was hitting more in the playoffs because.. it's the playoffs. The intensity ramps up. He still only took 3 penalties total in the playoffs anyway (over a span of 22 games). That's only about 20-24 PIM through an 82 game regular season. He had 20 PIM in this year's regular season. Pskov Wings Fan 71 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 i think he might of got a taste for hitting people now.. i'd expect him to be more physical next year, which will probably rule out another byng As long as he does not take penalties hitting people should not be a problem. If he hits like a gentleman (whatever it means) Dats should be considered for many more Lady Byng awards.
