2probert4 8 Report post Posted June 15, 2008 Kindl is not ready to be an NHL player. Thats why Babcock was ready to include him on the Wings roster 2 seasons ago, and the only thing that kept him off of there was the number of vets already on the team. Same goes for Ericsson and Quincey. Kindl had a bad season at GR yes, but being with Lidstrom, Chelios and friends every day was part of the plan for those guys. 2probert4 8 Report post Posted June 15, 2008 ...and Darren McCarty's not? I'd sign Chelios to my team before I'd let McCarty play for free... ...McCarty is the one who would be taking up the roster spot, plenty more forwards ready to make the jump than D-men. Darren Helm deserves a spot on this roster, and starting spot. Make Kopecky and Downey the 13th forwards to fill in for injuries, etc... ...great value, for knowledge alone. He will only play half the season (if that) prolly and he would lend years and years of knowledge to the likes of Meech and Ericcson and whoever else comes in to play some minutes... be careful, you'll get ripped for saying Kopecky should play. LidsFan 68 Report post Posted June 15, 2008 I am glad that Cheli is coming back for another year. He is a great team player and will be invaluable in helping the younger D take their game to another level. He knows that he will have limited ice time, and if he is okay with it than we should be also.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted June 15, 2008 Without Chelios, I really worry about our future D. They need to be able to learn from Chelios and Lidstrom. Rafalski is good and all, but I've never heard anyone talk about learning from him. Our veteran-to-young-kid ratio has worked for us.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted June 15, 2008 Ericsson wasn't going to be on the roster next season anyways. You're all forgetting that Quincey and Meech are both higher on the senority list, and neither can clear waivers. Bringing back Chelios in a limited role will not hurt the team; he can share minutes with the young guys, and mentor them into better players. Not that I really think anything of Lebda, but he is somewhat better now than he was initially. Chelios helped him along, which he can more than likely do with better players like Meech or Quincey. Plus, with Chelios coming back, this pretty much solidifies Lilja's future, which is not here. Which, you know, is great.

Kindl was NOT ready to be on the Red Wings roster 2 years ago. He had a bad season in GR because he was finally playing professional hockey and wasnt in juniors anymore. He had a chance to make the roster in training camp, just like any youngster does and almost always doesnt make the cut. He needs more time to develop. Ericsson, Quincey, and Meech will get time ahead of Kindl easily.
SwedeLundin77 460 Report post Posted June 15, 2008 Just a rule of thumb if you misspell a pretty easy to spell name of a player in your post you are probably going to lose creditability, his name is Stuart, why is it that some people on this board can't get it right. Or am I missing some inside joke like 4rd period. Seriously guy, that was an honest mistake, when you're typing a lot of s*** and you are just thinking in your head, Stuart... the name Stewart is also up there in the noggin. It's a common mistake to mistype something like that. Word jumble, yeah, it happens. Losing credibility over it, is a little over the top. It's not like I typed Stuert or something. Some people on here get so freakin' sensitive over some of the dumbest stuff, it's comical. Next time I'll make sure to dot my T's and cross my I's.
egroen 384 Report post Posted June 15, 2008 I think too many are judging him by his play against Dallas, when he was obviously injured, and by his age. I make a habit of watching him each game... and he can still play 2nd line if he needs to... just like he did last year.

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted June 15, 2008 We all know it's going to probably be for a minimal amount. And even though Chelios is "old", he still works out like a freak of nature so I wouldn't be surprised if he still has some gas left in the tank. I highly doubt he'll get more than 3rd line minutes or he might just even be a 7th/8th d-man while trying to get one of either Meech, Quincey, Ericcson, or Kindl more time. As much as I want to see all 4 younger guys play, you cannot get this wish immediately and you cannot keep all of your prospects, regardless of the Chelios re-signing, and regardless of the signing as well assume that all 4 guys will all probably be competing for the #6 d-man spot, that means three still are either healthy scratches. Unless there is a big clusterf**k of injuries like there was in January or February to many of the defensemen, not a lot of them are going to get playing time still I think. Nothing wrong with this all but official re-signing.

Quincey and Meech have both been here longer, though. That's what I was basing it off of.
