Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 Anyone think that the Wings should go after this guy? I understand he will command a huge salary, (7-8mil?) but with a back end loaded contract it might just be worth it. Giving him Rafalski like money in the first two years, then 7 for another two? Lidstrom will be gone in 2 years, and Campbell is a great pairing for Kronwall. Could the Wings let Stuart walk and sign Campbell? I know a lot of people are calling for a forward, but our top two lines look to be pretty potent anyways with the emergence of Franzen, Cleary, and Filpulla. Our D would be unbeatable if we added Brian Campbell. Just a thought....not really a rumour. Sorry.

Our D would be unbeatable if we added Brian Campbell. Just a thought....not really a rumour. Sorry. With having to re-sign Zetterberg and Franzen next summer, a signing like this would not work at all. We'll wait until Lidstrom is out to assess what kind of moves to make on the back-end. At least moves of that magnitude. You also have to take into account that we have a few defensive prospects rising up through the ranks that may very well fill in our holes as the years progress. You also cannot predict what Lidstrom will do when his two years are up. The way that guy plays, I could see him adding at least one more year after his current contract is up. We won't be able to make a move like this. I think the biggest move you'll see us make will be for a top end scorer for no more than 2 years, or a dependable top four defensemen for no more than 3 million a season. rbochan 15 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 As I and just about every other Sabres fan know, he's just not worth that kind of scratch. Sure, he can make some pretty moves and all, but he makes just as many stupid mistakes - and at the worst possible times. $3-4M perhaps.
Slave 31 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 i agree i hope we do not get this guy, not unless it is less then we would pay stuart which it won't be
DMAC 25 18 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 detroit wants to sign stuart for less than 3.5 million i don't think they would go after campbell as much as i would like to see him in a wings jersey it won't happen

SwedeLundin77 460 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 Campbell is good and his stock is only rising, but he would demand too much money and would not be that physical defensemen we would be seeking. Maybe in a couple of years when Lidstrom hangs them up, but I would think by then that Ericsson would be coming into his own and Kindl would also have his act together which gives us a long time with potent defensemen from our own system.
