Does signing Stewie, & Lilja mean a few of the youngsters in GR will become trade bait?

Me thinks so.

Meech or Quincey will. Ericsson will be in GR. My guess the more likely tradable one is Quincey but we'll see.

That doesn't bother me one bit. The Wings now have a defense that won't need to be added to come the deadline barring the unforeseeable. The Wings' offense proved they could get it done in the postseason, and hello scoring winger at the deadline just to add one more weapon!

Totally agree; Wings don't need 'em, but Kenny is a magic man and if anyone could get Sundin or Rolston to sign with the Wings, it would be him. I'm pretty sure they won't come here, but it would be awesome if one of them did.

Absolutely no doubt about it. Meech is all but gone now, and Q may not be far behind.

This isn't probably the most realistic, but it would be great to hold Meech until the deadline to package him in a deal.

I am wondering if Lebda may be more appealing to other teams due to his speed, not necessarily his overall skill, but that he is a quick D-man from the best defensive team in the league last year. He may peak more interest than guys who had a hard time cutting the roster?

Per TSN he also got a no trade clause:

"The deal also included a no-trade clause in the first two season and a limited no-trade clause in the last two years of the contract."

I don't really mind this and I think it was probably an important part of the deal for him. Although I do wonder what the limited no-trade part includes exactly.

It's official, I am *** for Holland.

Amazing to get this done! Way to bend your stupid structure and not do it in a dumb way.

We are going to have to move someone....

I guarantee this was all Kenny being a great salesman and also selling the value of being on the Wings. I bet he had a number around $4 million in his head, and just banged the hell out of the number $3 million until Stuart thought he was getting a great deal with the Wings at $3.75.

Kenny is a god.

You're probably right in that he would be more appealing and fetch more in return, but he's locked in until 09/10 for a dirt-cheap contract. The Wings may just want to hang on to him until atleast until the 09/10 trade-deadline.

He may peak more interest than guys who had a hard time cutting the roster?

Keep in mind that he had a hard time cutting the roster on one of (if not the) best defenses in the NHL. It's not like he struggling to crack the Kings' roster.

Someone will go before the opener. Probably right after training camp, they will decide who to move. My money is on Quincey being moved, Meech staying at #7, Chelios at #8, and Ericsson spending the year in GR.

WAY TO BE! At first I was thinking we paid more than we wanted to, but when you think about it, we got him for cheap and he is the ideal partner for Kronner. Think about this: Kronner and Stuart for a whole season to build on near instant chemistry, an emerged monster in Franzen, most likely a 3 year deep Filpulla centering a line with said Mule and possibly a scoring winger like a Rolston, now we just need a 4th liner to fill the Mac/Drake spot, all set! Today might be a great day... :D

I am SHOCKED.

This is absolutely terrific.

Lids/Raf for 2 years.

Kronner and Stu for 4 years.

Chelly can boss around any combination of Lebda/Lilja/Meech/Quincey/Ericsson, or Babs can experiment.

THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I said this yesterday... it is a great time to be a Red Wings fan.

(insert understatement comment here)

Bingo. The Lebda idea being thrown around is possible but he's proven he can play at #5 and is cheap. We'll see. Probably won't know until training camp though like some have said. Let them all play and earn a spot.

My guess is it's something like that he would have to approve the trade.

By the time Raffy and Lidstrom are done, Kronner and Stuart will be matured and at their peaks...my God, the transition could be seamless!

I never thought we'd resign Stuart, let alone for a fairly long term contract!

That's what I thought at first but players can waive their no-trade clause whenever they want I think. Toronto was trying to get several guys to waive theirs at the deadline this year and I don't remember hearing that their no-trade clauses were limited. I was wondering if was only to a team that was in the playoff standings at the time of the trade or only to an eastern conference team or something like that.
