I like the idea of continuing the experiment of meech as a forward. I too think he has more upside than lebda, but Lebda did a good job in the playoffs and seems to know how to play to his strengths.... really pleased stuart signed as he's exactly the type of defenceman we find hard to draft...puck moving whils being solid, physical and not flashy

I was kind of upset that he got a raise instead of taking a discount for us. But, now seeing that Jeff Finger got $3.5 million a year from the Maple Leafs makes me feel a lot better.

Fantastic job re-signing him. Money is on the high side, but still much less than he would get on the open markey.

Are Meech & Quincy still on 2-way deals or would they have to clear waivers to be sent down?

I'm very surprised, gotta say. Maybe a slight overpayment, but all in all I'm happy with this.

4 years. Damn.

If Jeff Finger can get 3.5 million, Brad Stuart is worth every penny of the deal he received. Comapred to the Finger contract, the Stuart re-signing is a bargain right now.

I like him but it's a bit expensive when we have so many young dmen and could use a second line scorer and someone on the pp. But great news anyways and hopefully they trade him in a couple years for a forward.

The waivers system doesn't have anything to do with 2-way deals, but yes, Meech and Quincey would have to clear to be sent down.

Stuart getting re-signed makes SWF a very happy man.

I'm all for getting a top-6/2nd line winger, but it's not like the Wings offense is just struggling for goals, and defense/goaltending wins championships.

Our defensive depth is set for next season now.

I am so happy that Stuart is staying in Detroit. He and Kronwall have such great chemistry. I can't wait to see them play together for a whole season. I love that we have the best "D" in the league.

Someone will go before the opener. Probably right after training camp, they will decide who to move. My money is on Quincey being moved, Meech staying at #7, Chelios at #8, and Ericsson spending the year in GR.

Isn't Quincey an RFA? If Kenny doesn't make him a qualifying offer, is he free to go? What if someone gives him an offer sheet, Kenny may let him go for the required compensation.

I think out of Lebda, Meech, or Quincey will be moved. The question becomes, "What qualities are you looking for from your last D pair?" I said this in another thread, but could Quincey be a better version of Lilja in 2 years? If so, I think you keep him for the PK. Do you keep Meech due to his offensive ability or Lebda now that he has Stanley Cup experience. I think Meech or Lebda is who gets moved. Chelios retires after next season. Maybe Lids retires in 2 years, Lilja is gone and the d looks like this.

Kronwall - Raffie

Stuart - Ericsson

Quincey - Lebda

Meech or Kindl

Who knows, but these are great problems to have.

Dude- the Wings are damn lucky to get him for as cheap as they did. Honestly- in the current market this contract is a steal. I have a feeling today is going to be pretty crazy.

Oh I agree, this has ended up being a really good deal. It is just funny how every report said "Stuart will have to take considerably less than the 3.5 million he made last year to stay on a winner." Some of these contracts today have been ridiculous.

We have Kronwall, Rafalski and Stuart for the next four years. It is very likely we will have Lidstrom for the next four years. They are all excellent two-way defensemen. Two of them are positional, two are physical.
