haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 NONONONONO Fedorov jumped ship for MORE MONEY, not a chance to win. Oh and he also was a member of the Wings for way longer then four months. As has been mentioned, Fedorov didn't jump ship for more money. But I agree that they aren't the same situations because Fedorov was not a playoff rental, he was a key Red Wings player for years. auxlepli 17 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 In all three cases - Jagr, Fedorov, and Hossa - the fans have the right to boo them when they come back. I feel the fans' pain. Not everybody likes to turn the other cheek. Some people believe in the eye-for-an-eye system. In my opinion it's cathartic for fans to boo. They feel betrayed; why not let them vent? There's no harm in it. Calling those fans who chose to do so knuckleheads is knuckleheaded in my opinion.
Cern 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 Let me ask this then, are Wings fans justified in booing Todd Bertuzzi or are they knuckleheads then? Yeah he left to Anaheim for more money, but if we don't even consider his "history" or that he's a fairly disliked player around the leauge and only consider his brief stint in Detroit that was short-lived, are Wings fans knuckleheads for booing him then? How about if you take everything else into consdieration then along with the brief stint? Is it justified then? Unlike Bertuzzi or Pronger, Hossa's sole claim to fame isn't being a goon. imisssergei 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 Yeah, I can see why Pens fans would be frustrated. I wanted Hossa to stay in Pittsburgh like any Pens fan. I think the problem people have is that many times Hossa and his agent said Pittsburgh was his number one choice to play. I think that had he not said that, the Pens fans wouldn't be so upset. When the free agency period started, I didn't even really think to much about Hossa. I just assumed he would resign with the Pens based on his comments. So it was a surprise to find out he went to Detroit. As far as him going to Detroit, I can't really blame him. The Pens are my favorite team but the Wings by far have the best chance of winning the Cup this coming season. So if he can take less money than offered to play for the Wings one year, fine. Can't blame a guy for wanting to win the Cup. Many in Pittsburgh feel he only signed one year because he plans to win the Cup then go back to Pittsburgh. So maybe you won't hear all those boos that the writer says you will. At the same time, I have heard that he will resign with Detroit after this year because their will be more cap money after the end of next season. Who knows, I'm sure Hossa doesn't even know yet. This season has yet to start so I doubt he has plans for next year. Hossa said things like the Pens were his number one choice 'right now'. Once the Pens couldn't get the deal done before the deadline, Hossa's thinking changed. He went to the team that has the best shot at the Cup next year. He will take out an insurance policy on himself to compensate for any career ending or other serious injury that may effect his contract next year. Brilliant move on Hossa's part. If Pens fans want to boo someone, it shouldn't be Hossa. It should be Malone. He is the guy that forced the Pens to make a choice, and pretty much dismantle the team. Had he just taken a paycut to stay, the Pens would be in a good position to win the East. Now who do they have? Satan? Wow, there is someone you have to watch out for
octopusonice 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 Well, the Penguin fans might not have loved the way Hossa left, but he was pretty much a rental anyways, just like Wings fans better not be upset if he goes somewhere else. The issue with Fedorov isn't the same. The guy had a contract negotiation that had been going on a long while with the Wings, said he wanted his sweetheart deal, the Wings gave it to him, and he ends up taking 10 million less somewhere else. Wings fans thought he had loyalty to the team he won 3 cups with and seemed like he wanted to be captain of. It was a total 180 and also because he didn't want Yzerman taking center stage. He wanted to be captain right away, wanted the attention, and was simply egocentric. Not good for the locker room nor the team. Pittsburgh has no reason to boo Marian, but I'd rather them boo him than not care. Wings have every reason to boo Fedorov, and I'd even moreso rather them boo Fedorov than not care. The Joe is too damn quiet anyways. Rain down the boos. Hell, boo every Penguin who touches the puck when the teams play at the Joe, this season. To boo is not to be a knucklehead. It's simply to be passionate about your team and the sport. For that, I welcome it. Even though it didn't matter to me too much since it wasn't my team, I enjoyed watching Anaheim boo Kariya and Selanne, LA boo Blake, Vancouver boo Chelios, Chicago boo Chelios, and so on and so forth. ^^^ That post is pretty close to how I feel. Smizik makes some good points in the column he wrote, but I would not give the Pittsburgh fans a hard time for booing. I went through a similar phase as a Padres fan here in SD in 1999 after we just made it to the World Series, only to get swept by the Yanks. We ended up losing Steve Finley, Ken Caminiti, Greg Vaughn and our ace pitcher Kevin Brown who signed an ungodly contract of 7 yrs and $105M to that hated team up the freeway from here, the LA Dodgers. Brown was not a trading deadline acquistion, but we only had him for one year. One time the Dodgers came to town and the local fans let him have it. Every time he batted, every time he had the ball, they just gave him an earful. Someone made an effigy of Brown full of play money and beat it up. Brown had probably the worst night of his career and we won 9-2. Just a couple of weeks ago, the Padres celebrated the 10th anniversary of that team/ Brown was there and the fans cheered him. Glad to see that, but it made me realize that at times we can be big hypocrites as fans. So, I don't plan on giving the Pens fans a hard time, cuz I've gone through the same in other sports. Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted July 23, 2008 Detroit has some pretty good players with whom Hossa can share the ice. Maybe not a Crosby, but close. That line got me. Excuse me, but Crosby is not close to Hank. Hank has what it takes to be a NHL SC Champ. Until the Pens and everyone else realize it takes players on both ends of the rink... ah, what's the point

It isn't like he is Rick Nash now. And no one on Detroit has the skill set that Crosby does. You gotta give credit where credit is due.
