Question for Duck guy and other teams fans

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Anyone obviously can answer, it is after all a discussion board.

But Duck guy, with the situation in ANA for next season with all but 6 skaters being Free agents of some form next season, and after seeing Pittsburgh have a massive exodus how worried are you?

Does the Burke situation and talk of him to Toronto worry you at all?

Does this feel like a got to get something done this year philosophy or does being 2 years removed from the cup make it easy to take?

Mods feel free to delete if this is a waste of space.

Life is so much rosier as a Wings fan. At least since the 80s :)

I join my friend in rooting for Nashville sometimes (I know, but it's a good young team that is fun to watch), and dear lord, those fans have it rough. This Radulov thing is just another nice kick to the gonads.

I can' t answer at your question but I have other questions for other teams fans.

I was looking yesterday for the salary cap free of each NHL teams (nhlnumbers.com) and I was just more than surprised to see for example the situation of the LA Kings and other teams.

For example the LAK have more than half of their salary cap free :scared:

what would they do with that?

I guess if a lot of teams like i ve seen don t sucess to spend their money, it s a good indication that praise for good players will drop up (coz they will propose them always more to try to catch them)

Thoughts?

I think it is sort of like the trade deadline theory, if you aren't planning on being really good why strap yourself financially when you are going to perhaps have to drop that talent when you suck.

Not my favorite theory but that is the thought I get, some owners like in Nashville in the past just spend enough to make the salary cap minimum and are happy to just be there.

I think LA has a good amount of players that are going to have big salary increases relatively soon. Players like Kopitar, O'sullivan, Frolov and Brown are sure to be in that category. Also, I think it's pretty low because they still have a lot of RFA's yet to be signed.

Brown re-signed, and it's possible LA just can't get any quality players. They're a horrible franchise.

They have been pretty bad for a while now....

You know the Kings still have to make up 11 mil in salary to reach the cap floor.

Anyone know what the penalty is for a club that hasn't reached the cap floor?

They were moving in the right direction, but then they decided this isn't working fast enough so lets take a huge step backwards and shake things up for no real reason.

Whenever you have to do something just to do something, you're in Lions territory.

I have got to tell you they have some real decent talent here in Manch-Vegas (Manchester NH) it may not be all world talent like Kopitar but, they have some young secondary type players developing in Manch.

I can honestly say that I am not worried at all burke has done a fine job so far (except for a few bumbs here and there *cough bertuzzi cough*) and i believe that he will sign the players that need to be signed Beauchemin being one of them with scotty most likely leaving after this year.

Dont see burke going toronto he has nothing but good to say about the owners and the city (though I am sure he wouldent go public with something like this place sucks!) but i think the relationship between him and Samuelis is very strong.

And this year my expectations is the same as last years make the SCF or at least the WCF.. no excuses why they cant do it... Most of the team had a crappy year last year but hopefully they can learn from their mistakes and actually score some goals... I have no problem with our D keep it like it was last year but ZOMG SCORE SOME GoAlS !@!!@@! lol...

Hopefully Bobby is up to the challenge...

so all in all not worried i see burke doing what needs to be done if that means signing someone i do not like....(will not name ^^) or letting someone go i do like (Schneider dont leave!!!)

I would imagine the commissioner would step in and force compliance or issue penalties/punishment for non-compliance.

I looked at the CBA which can be found at http://www.nhl.com/cba/2005-CBA.pdf.

Section 50.5 (a) deals with salary caps and floors and basically says that to have a team salary total below the floor is not allowed, but I could not find anything about penalties or punishment for not complying.

Maybe we have some lawyers in here that want to take a stab at it.

I admittedly hate the Ducks, but I have a hard time seeing them make the playoffs this year. Even if Teemu comes back, their goal-scoring might be even worse this year.

I do not think they will make it either, with low goal scoring and some younger teams coming on (chicago/edmoton/columbus)..kk maybe not edmoton :)

I am not certain but I am pretty sure that I heard on one of the free agent shows when they were discussing salaries and I believe it was LA they were discussing about being so far below the minimum. If I remeber correctly they said that the team would have to forfeit every game until they were compliant.

That would force compliance pretty quickly

what do you mean by "to forfeit games" sorry english is not my mother tongue..

That basically means that even if the Kings play the game and win, they still would lose the game and the 2 points for the win! That would be very strange! My question is, if you know that you will have to forfeit the game, then what is the point of fielding the team for the game r games! espically if the Kings had to go on a 9 game east coast trip like last season!!

haha yep i understand it s almost the same in french "perdre le match par forfait"

Anyway it won t happen (they have still some UFA and RFA to sign) but i still don t understand a team like the Kings. For example they should have tried a guy like Haydar (that i can say a lot of people wanted him to com in switzerland) that put amazing numbers in the AHL..

I think we shouldn t try to understand these darks forces...

Gary Bettman said on the radio once upon a time if a team refuses to either meet the cap floor or come below the cap ceiling it will be forced to hand hockey operations off to the NHL offices who will make moves for them to either add or subtract the necessary salary.

So what you're essentially saying is that if they are non-compliant for the entire season, then their record would only be slightly worse that it was last year?

Save the money.
