Then why not have the game played in a field somewhere? Or otherwise not make the game viewable live? Spending several hundred dollars for a ticket when you aren't going to be able to see a damn thing anyway is absolutely ridiculous, 'nostalgia' or not. That's like me paying 500$ for a Rolling Stones ticket where my 'seat' is outside of the arena they're playing in.

...who's not gonna be able to view it? I hope I can here in Detroit. If f*ckin Bettman put a blackout in the two cities I gonna hang him!

edit: Just a note, if for some reason Bettman shows up hanged, I was only kidding, I am not really gonna hang him. In effigy...

Enjoy your crappy corner-ice seat a country mile away from the rink. Even with binoculars you won't be able to see a thing, and that's assuming the weather is clear.

Is that sarcasm? Or do you actually think they're going to host an NHL outdoor game in Phoenix?

Actually, Phoenix and other desert cities like Las Vegas, get cold at night in the winter time and can even get down to freezing. I have stayed in Phoenix overnight in November and awakened to frost on my windshield. Do it at night in January and it should be OK.

Besides, as long as it wasn't in the sun, it should work with normal refrigeration equipment. If you held the game in a Sun Belt city at night it's probably no worse than holding a SCF in June in an indoor facility.

that one puzzled me too, why not the big house? or one of the millions of other listings for a michigan match. And if you're going to do it in Chicago, why there of all places?

The main reason i can think of is it's baseball season till October. They have the Red Wings and Blackhawks Logos in the outfield. Publicity! They have three more months of publicity if the Cubs continue leading their division and on to the playoffs.

If you can watch a football or a baseball game there, watching hockey shouldn't be too hard. Human beings, regardless of what sport they play are comparatively similar in shape and size.

I assume the puck and what happen in the corners will be hard to see
