Slave 31 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 so i just bet my boss $50 that hossa would put up more points this season then iginla if they play withen 5 games of each other. I tried to get him to take a Filppula vs vandermeer as well but he wouldn't go for it. You guys think i got a chance of some free cash or did i just blow $

You guys think i got a chance of some free cash or did i just blow $50 There are two factors, well really one but with two different circumstances that might hurt you. Supporting cast: Hossa has a much better supporting cast around him, that could provide more opportunities or take them away. Iginla who has a lesser supporting cast, will have to score more for his team to be effective, but at the same time he is passing to lesser talent. I think overall it is a safe bet, because Iginla is pretty much a one man show, where as Hossa is part of a trio.
Spinner 6 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 I think a lot of that will depend on which line he is on. I would venture to say it is a good bet, but a close one. It would at least be interesting to watch through the season.
jim3033 1 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Awesome wager. It's going to be close. How Hossa will fit in with the Wings remains to be seen. Iginla has proven himself a dominant player each season on his team. I think Iginla will get more points from looking at last season's numbers. Hossa had 66 points and Iginla had 98. I bet, with the Wings, Hossa will get around the mid-80's point range. Will Bertuzzi make more room on the ice for Iginla? Maybe. Iginla will probably have around 98 points again this season. I don't know much about Hossa's style of play yet. He's a real good puck handler. I expect to see many goals from many players on the Wings this season. I'll definatley root for Hossa to break 100 points though!
JayUp88 1 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 For some reason I really think Iginla and Big Bert are going to put up some good numbers this year. don't get me wrong this doesn't mean i don't think Hossa wont put up better, I'm just saying don't forget Bert in your Hockey Fantasy draft. Really? What makes you think Bert will reinvent his career all of a sudden? TBH, I see him continuing to fizzle off into retirement. He'll score some goals, but I think he's a shell of his former self and I never expect to see that player again.

Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 I don't know, I just think he will. I have nothing to back this up. Nothing wrong with a gut feeling... (Though, speaking from personal experience only, it's usually safer to bet in the complete opposite direction from MY gut feelings... Take that for what it's worth) Honestly, I think Hossa will have a bigger impact on scoring than did Lang or Whitney. These were guys who were good, but were relied upon to be one-of-if-not-THE top guy in their respective, crappy teams. And so going from being the top scorer in a less-than-average talent level team to a guy fighting for ice time in a LOADED Wings team... Dropoffs were inevitable. They were good players, but not elite. Hossa, on the other hand, signed the big money contract, and he'll be expected to put up big money numbers to match that big money contract. Expect him to be getting ice time either on a reinvented first line, or the second at worst. Figure in PP time, and PK time, and he'll put up good numbers. As for the bet... It's gonna be close, that's about all I can say. Well, that and, Good Luck!

You guys think i got a chance of some free cash or did i just blow $50 At least you made a challenging bet with two guys who know how to put up points. All depends on both of them staying healthy because it's a good bet they'll both, and this is at worst, put up at least 70 points. What if one of them gets injured, did both of you take that into consideration and is the bet null and void then?
Doggy 130 Report post Posted July 25, 2008 You got a better shot than that guy who bet we'd win 68 games. That's for sure.
