Doggy 130 Report post Posted July 30, 2008 Because people are paying to see the Packers, Bears, Vikings play? I cannot imagine shelling out money to the Ford family to see the product they field - as long as you current Detroiters continue to support that crap, nothing will change. But football is good. Why would they stop watching?
MississippiWing 14 Report post Posted July 30, 2008 I think you have to be an idiot to put Boston on that list and not Nashville. Don't get me wrong Nashville has good support considering the city they are in but damn Boston. I mean I can see where they are getting overlooked because of every other team in that city winning but damn.

I don't know that I totally buy that. Most NFL revenue comes from TV and ads, and less from ticket sales. It's conceivable the Lions would still make money with 10,000 empty seats per game. It's conceivable the Lions would still make money with 10,000 empty seats per game. By people showing up they give the Ford's an excuse to believe their team is relevant. If noone showed, then they might try to put an actual team on the field to avoid the embarrassment of having a great stadium with noone in it. And, I'm sorry, I just loose a whole lot of respect for anyone who can support that sorry-sack, piece-of-$h!t organization. They deserve to be ignored as much as possible. Worst organization in sports history, they've been pathetic for 50 years and the one constant is they're owned by that moron, Williams Clay Ford Sr. "Do You Believe In Now?" Ya, nice add campaig, what the f*** have the Lions ever given fans to believe in? Complete e,barrassment in every way possible to the city of Detroit and sports fans in general. 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted August 1, 2008 I've been a Lions fan for over 40 years in parts of the country where Vikings fans and Packers fans are the majority. My dad was a Lions fan before me. He says it builds character. According to dad: Lions motto #1: We're not mathematically eliminated yet! (Feb-Nov) Lions motto #2: There's always next year! DaKineMaui 8 Report post Posted August 1, 2008 "Barry Sanders, one of the greatest running backs of all time, retired early because he could no longer put up with the Lions' losing ways. At least the "Motor City" has the Pistons to get behind. (AP Photo/Lenny Ignelzi)" I OFTEN wondered about when Barry spoke to Wayne: "Hey coach? Just give me the ball? Please? I'm really really really good." "NO NO NO - Not on a draw on 4th and 22 .......idiot!"

It's conceivable the Lions would still make money with 10,000 empty seats per game. I was listening to a sports cast at the end of the season 2 years ago. The guys were breaking down all of the Detroit sports teams, and focusing on the Lions because it was right before the draft. It was pretty interesting. They got into the finances of the NFL. They didn't have the exact numbers because they weren't available, so they used the previous season. All expenses included (payroll, charted flights, ect.) they proved that not just the Lions, but EVERY team in the NFL is a profitable team before a single snap in the regular season. When you factor in ticket, merchandise, and concession sales, their profits just soar to a gross height. The reason the Ford's don't care about putting a good product on the field? They are making money hand over fist as it is now. I don't think you can put the Lions in the category of a team no one cares about. Someone said something about Michigan being a baseball town. I disagree. In any given weekend, MSU, U of M, and the Lions will sell out their home games. As big of a hockey fan as I am, I have to say that Michigan is a football state, hands down. Just look at the facts. The Wings, Tigers, and Pistons have all done fairly well in the past few years. Yet there is still more die hard Lions fans than any other team in Michigan. It's crazy to think about what would happen if the Lions ever had sustainable success.

Fireside 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2008 (edited) Raptors, Bruins, Vikings, Bengals, Rockies. and Rays definitely don't deserve to be on this list. Hell, you could make a case that the Jaguars, Orioles, Cardinals, Clippers, Lions, Giants, and Dolphins shouldn't even be on it. 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted August 2, 2008 I haven't met a single die hard lions fan. Ever. Hello, Doc. Pleased to meet you. Step into my house, past the Lions welcome mat. I'll pour you a drink into one of my many Lions glasses (using a Lions shot glass to pour, if you're so inclined) and we can chat about how I'm still head-over-heels in love with Jeff Chadwick. Or we can discuss the Wings, whichever you prefer. I'd invite you to spend the night (you could use my Lions pillow and blanket) but I don't know your gender, so we'll just skip that idea. We'll just have a nice chat instead.
