Hossa to Detroit @ Letsgopens.com

Those guys over at LGP have taken the Hossa signing a little too seriously if you ask me. The thread has been at the top of the page for months now and there is no sign of it slowing down. It has become a joke even to them. I guess it could possibly be due to the fact that it is summertime, but oh well.

Check it out for a good laugh.

Obsess much?

One day I was really bored and scrolled back to the trade deadline threads. Ironically, back then, Hossa was considered one of the greatest players in the game. Now, according to that thread, he isn't nearly as good. For an interesting read, you could also read the thread over there about the top 5 forwards in the game.

It's amazing how opinions can change so quickly :D

Some other funny posts include "We actually have more talent than Detroit does" and such posts like "I HOPE WE PLAY DETROIT IN THE SCF NEXT YEAR AND DESTROY THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

 Gotta love "fans" who have followed the Pens all of two years.

In other news, Jesus Himself came down from heaven today to personally wish his son Sidney Crosby a happy 21st birthday.

Pens fans are proven to be a very classless breed. Read pg. 9 of that post, one fan actually wishes Hossa to have a career ending injury while in Detroit.

now, now, not every pens fan is classless. Just most of them. :P

I say some of us should register on their boards just to make sure the thread will go on forever. We won't let the pain go away.

Careful. That could be considered trolling, and trolling other boards is a major LGW.com no-no.

In short, it tends to lead to more of their fans coming over here to troll our boards. And we all know how much we hate that...

I wouldn't be saying anything rude, but every once in a while we can go back, post something pointless on the thread to make sure it pops back up again on the front page. That way they wil never forget ... would that be wrong? haha.

edit: I guess I don't really want a bunch of crybaby pens fans here anyways, so maybe its not a good idea :P

It was probably the same way on LetsGoPistons.com (I don't know if that actually exists) when Ben Wallace went to Chicago. So, I wouldn't put it past Detroit fans to do the same thing.

I like their 3 most common excuses:

1) They have crosby and malkin...

2) He's likely to get injured

3) Marian is a female name....(as if Crosby and Malkins aren't)...

They also believe that Crosby and Malkin are cheaper alternatives...I wonder how much they will be asking when their contracts expire...

And, they seem to think that we're going to have one hell of a hard time trying to re-sign Zetterberg...good thing we have "hometown discounts" and the cheapest goalie duo lol.

Shouldn't be much of a shock to anybody, regardless of how little time his career was with the Penguins. Hossa's time with them may have been short, but he produced during that short time period, and the Penguins played and lost to the Wings to the Finals. One of your top point getters in Hossa bolts from the Penguins, a legit Cup contender next season, to the team that they lost to, the Red Wings. If I were a Penguin fan I'd be a little disappointed as well.

There's a layer even deeper than that though. Yes, everything you said is true, but there's a bit more to it.

Hossa had previously said that he would like to sign in Pittsburgh. He even said that he would take less money to sign with a contender. So the fans got their hopes up that he would be returning, and that a full year's worth of ice time with Sid & Geno would build up their chemistry. Pittsburgh's front office put together several deals to offer to him, varying in length and money. But Hossa asks to be given the chance to test the open market. Everyone knows that Edmonton put together a 7 year, 60 million deal, to which Pitts had zero chance of matching. But when Hossa surprises EVERYONE and signs a one year deal, with the team that barely a month ago beat him out for the Stanley Cup, and on a one year deal that was right in the range of what Pittsburgh was offering? To borrow a quote from Adam and Jamie of Mythbusters... "There's your problem..."

Signing with the team that eliminated your team? That hurts.

Signing a deal that Pittsburgh would have matched given the opportunity? That stings.

But the true salt in the wound for Pittsburgh's fans is this line by Hossa when he signed with Detroit...

"I want to have a best chance to win the Stanley Cup. I feel like Detroit is the team."

That's just a slap in the face, no matter how you look at it.

People need to stop mentioning Fedorov's situation with Detroit being in line with Hossa's situation whatsoever. Fedorov was playing for an organization that went through hell to even get him into the NHL, and then gave him everything he could've dreamed of while he was here. The Pens have had one year of bona fide success and then went on to lose a few key pieces to their playoff run.

The only situation that is comparable is Schneider. He was a huge point producer for Detroit, and what he didn't have in game-taking presence a la Hossa, he had in tenure with the wings. Were Wings fans pissed? Yes. Did we go on a booing streak with him, bestowing him withe nicknames like "Schneiderasshole" or "Judas" like Pens fans have? No.

The only answer I have is that its a patently young fan group, due to the fact that a pair of youngsters lead the squad and a teenager was their renaissance man. And that translates into a lot of immaturity that other fan bases don't have to such an extent..

Yep, I definitely didn't forget the extras there, but I didn't feel the need to mention that extra stuff b/c the simplicity of it would seem obvious that Penguins fans would be upset with him leaving without going into details of the circumstances, yet people here act so shocked that they are angry about it.

And for people who get on Penguin fans who will boo Hossa when the Wings play @ Pitt and say that they are wrong or stupid for doing so...remember when Wings fans booed Todd Bertuzzi last season when he was a Duck? Was the booing of Bertuzzi jusitifed even though he underperformed during his short time as a Wing during a similar time period as Hossa's time with the Penguins?

See, I remember Hossa saying he would like to sign "with a good team...like Pittsburgh."

LIKE Pittsburgh. I seriously don't remember him saying the words "I want to sign with Pittsburgh." I think he was very careful with the way he chose his words when free agency approached.

In all honesty I think he went about this in the best way possible. He obviously wanted to play for Detroit and nobody else; we offered him the least out of everyone who was trying to get him, and reports say that Hossa's agent was the one to call Holland, and not the other way around. How else could he have left Pittsburgh for Detroit without hurting all their fans?

And as for Babcock tampering, the amount of time he spent with Hossa during the handshakes isn't nearly enough time to efficiently tamper with some other organization's player. If the Wings were really to tamper, they would've got in touch with Hossa and/or his agent during the year in an off ice scenario and would've seriously thrown some bait his way. A simple "you would've done great in Detroit, Hossa, we'd love to hear from you when your contract expires" hardly counts. Besides, no one has a copy of exactly what Babcock and Hossa talked about. What if they were talking about those Krispy Kremes Hossa owed the Wings for winning the cup?
