I watched that game with my brother in a bar in Fort Collins, Colorado, behind enemy lines so to speak ... when Freddie scored that goal we both went ape. Seeing Avs fans' dismay up close like that is truly priceless

I think Patty was probably scared to go home, if he caught that look on his wife's face on the jumbotron. Funniest moment of the series, aside from when Patty dropped the puck in his own net. Or maybe it was when he got shelled and chased in the 7-0 blowout. It's so hard to choose.

And if we're "reflecting" on overtime playoff winners, the Wings-Sharks game 4 playoff game in 2007 is on NHL Network right now where Schneider scored the OT goal. And of course I fell asleep in-between the 3rd period and OT of that game and didn't wake up in time to see the goal. And I'm not going to watch it now since I'm too tired again, about to go to bed, and I've seen the replay about 500 times.

1. Wings-Avs was once a rivalry

2. The teams wearing white jerseys at home; dark on the road. It was strange to see someone in red score a goal without the cheer from the crowd and the horn blasts.

I remember being off work the day after this game and staying up till stupid-o-clock watching it That really was a terrific series, 2 great teams going at it hammer and tongs. Games 3 & 6 were two of the best performances I have ever seen the Wings give.

BTW whatever happened to Olaufsson? He seemed to disappear off the face of the earth after we won the cup.

Freddie had to have a liver transplant in July, 2007. I found this in Snapshots (George Malik's blog on mlive):

July 15, 2007: Aftonbladet (translated via Systran): Olausson has got a new liver: Ice hockey legend Fredrik Olausson, 40, has got a new liver.

He is [home] from the hospital and feels after the circumstances OK.

"The transplant took six hours, and now [focus] I on becoming entirely [healthy]," says Fredrik via his agent Joakim Persson.

...

Fredrik [did] not have the energy to speak with the meda about transplantation and chooses to let the agent Joakim Persson to deal with all statements.

Gets care in the home: The operation took six hours. An evidence on that the each lyckosam. n common cases, a liver transplant takes 10-14 hours to implement.

July 5, Fredrik became Olausson [discharged] from Huddinge university hospitals. He became then inscribed on the hospital in Jonkoping. Since last Wednesday gets Fredrik care in his homes in Jonkoping. The comes to dwell hugely long time to Fredrik feels really good again, says Joakim Persson.

In terms of his hockey career after his year with Detroit in 2002, he played with Anaheim in the 2002-03 season, I saw the Ducks open up the season that year against the Dallas Stars when I was living in that area and he played that game. After that year he played overseas for a few years. In terms of life though, much more important, well puckloo basically explained it all and that's something I had no clue of until now. Hopefully he'll resume somewhat of a normal life in time.

Thank you for the memories. Watching that truly brought to light how much the team has changed. When you watch year after year you almost don't notice because a few players leave and a few new ones are added but when you look back at that team even from just 6 years ago 75% of the team is different. Then I think about Stevie and Dom and how I'll never get to see them play again.

Honestly I haven't paid that much attention to how Hossa skates. I will have to watch this year and let you know because Sergei was an amazing skater. So strong and fast. Hard to move off the puck.

I miss fischer.

obviously we can't speculate on how good he would or wouldn't be. But the argument could be made that Lids, Rafi, Stuart, Kronner, Fischer, Chelios would be the best 6 D-men to ever skate together. Granted I'm 21 and can't talk even for the 80's, but i don't know if i can recall a stronger top SIX D-men in the last 10-15 years.

Forsberg was the one doing all the damage in the series. He had 27p in 21 games and won the scoring.
