Habs to retire roy's number 33

Didn't see this coming, I thought that he wanted nothing to do with the organization again. Not due to the nine goal emarassment against the Wings back in the day, but because of the building tensions between him and the coaching staff, among other factors.

You didn't see it coming? the habs retire everybody.

I remember only too well the day the red wings scored 11 goals vs the habs and Pat Roy was left in for 9 of em. They did that to embarrass him because rejean houle (gm) and Mario Tremblay (coach at the time) were *****. (that btw wasn't the first and only time they treated players like crap, I saw them on tv during a habs game and Tremblay threw a water bottle at Vladimir Malakhov, at that time he was one of the best D men on the team)

I remember it so well because I was a big habs fan at that time, of course I liked the wings then but the habs were my fave team at that time)

and shortly after it happened I wrote a letter to one of our papers defending Pat Roy and criticizing the sportswriter because he called Roy a crybaby.

I just have to roll my eyes. Jiminey H. Cricket, they treat him badly and now want to retire his number? Riiiiight.

I mean he deserves to have his number retired. I'm not taking that away. But still.....

I love the revenge though. Healthy revenge I call it. Since that time the Habs have never won a stanley cup (even missed the playoffs for a couple of years) well I feel bad for players I like such as Koivu (he deseves a cup imo) but at the same time I think the habs kind of deserved it

and Roy's and Malakhov's revenge was sweet too. They both went off, left montreal, joined other team, and won the stanley cup, Roy with the Avs, and Malakhov in 2000 with the Devils.

I think, if you have a gifted person on your team, Roy was a great goalie, you take care of them and treat them well to get the best out of them, not treat them badly as Tremblay and Corey had done.

Are Jocelyn Thibault, Eric Fichaud, and Pat Jablonski all up for jersey retirement's next?

I understand the team has a rich history and everything, but seriously; give this jersey retirement business a rest already. He left in such a way that you have wonder what their thinking is behind this.

Pretty simple really, Patrick Roy brought the Canadiens back to glory, they owe him this much.

Roy lead that team to two Stanley Cups as the Conn Smythe winner. He's a Hall Of Famer so it makes sense.

I think the Norris family forced Lindsey out of Detroit because of an off-ice disagreement. Are there any of personnel from that '95 Montreal team still around?

I sure hope not. and not that I'm aware of

*knock on wood*

the GM now is Bob Gainey. The coach is Guy Carbonneau. the assistant coach (I think that's what he is) is Kirk Muller.

This is true - Lindsay was talking union.

Kelly was traded because he dared to mention to a reporter that the broken ankle he was forced to play on may have been a reason they had not made the playoffs the previous year. Jack Adams immediately traded him.

He's probably played with all of them while in Montreal, he was there for a decade. Are the owners the same.

i grew up thinking that roy dissed the habs so hard. when he left he was so raw, and nasty. i have always thought he was a giant prick. time has proven me and the rest of the world right. he is a giant prick. the canadians are making a huge mistake by putting his name up in the rafters, especially because the avs put him up first. that in itself is a shame. i hate patrick roy with a passion. always have. disgrace to the game!
