3-1,3-2 doesnt matter at all to me.In a few years hardly anyone will remember who LOST the cup final let alone what the score was.

"if Malone had been called on knocking the stick out of Liljas hands" it would be 5 on 4 instead of 6 on 4 (with pitt's goalie pulled).

This poll should include a maybe :P

You mean game 6?

That was the game we won anyway, so it doesn't really matter. However, that clip reminds me of the horrendous officiating throughout the series. I still can't believe the Pens were the ones whining about the refs.

Yeah, it was terrible all playoffs, especially in the Finals. I love when a team gets all the ridiculous phantom powerplays and yet they do all the bitching. If we really want to get into it, what about when Datsyuk got called for interference just for checking Staal which lead to their first goal by Malkin on the powerplay, or with 15 seconds or so left when Datsyuk was bolting down the left side toward an empty net and was blantantly tripped in the neutral zone? Either way, we won, the refs were horrible, the Penguins were whiners, the Stanley Cup is where it belongs.

If you count the stick being pushed out towards the blueline there were 3 penalties that weren't called during the last 1 1/2 minutes. The officiating sucked the whole playoffs and the NHL should be ashamed if that was the best of it's officals.

Refereeing was bad I think all around, but non-Red Wing fans can easily just say that the Red Wings were whiners. Every NHL player, hell every professional athlete and their mother whines at some point in their careers so the whining thing doesn't really mean much. And again I'm not denying the bad officiating overall, but the Red Wings did get more PPs in the series if I'm not mistaken, so the referees certainly gave them "chances" as well. Every team gets good and crappy breaks from the officials throughout a playoff series, it doesn't just happen against whoever our favorite team is.

There were comments made by the tv guys on the officiating, but detroit was supposedly the most penalized team in the playoffs. I think the refs get caught up in the crowd emotion too much at times and let that dictate their choices. But there are some officials that do call the Wings tighter than others. It doesn't matter though, they still got through it and won the Cup. All the crying just made the Pens fans and the Pens team look bad.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure the pens knew they could get away with whatever. You never see that happen and not get called, not so blatantly anyway.

On a side note, I was going SOOO crazy when we won that I didn't even realize the Hossa shot wouldn't have counted because the clock was at zero. It was hilarious though. My friend couldn't even watch the last play. She stuffed her head in between the couch cushions. :D

I don't recall Babcock or any of the players whining to the press. Crosby was the biggest whiner, especially between games 2 and 3 , almost to the point where you could see how blantantly one sided the officiating was. With that aside, Detroit may have gotten more PP's but should've had more. The non-calls were embarassing to fans of the NHL. And the notion that PP's should be even during a game, not saying you think this, is just BS. If a team commits more penalties, the refs shouldn't try to even it up by calling questionable calls or non calls just so it doesn't look like a lopsided game. If a team is screwing up that much, they deserved to be penalized for it.

Yeah, i do believe the wings ended up with more PP during that series BUT....its not just the fact that the pens got away with alot..its also the fact that WHEN the wings were called for one of these phantom penalties...or even a legit one...its WHEN it was called. The refs seemed to let things go when neither team had momentum...but when the wings gained momentum, things the ref let go 3 seconds ago...were all of a sudden getting called. Its not that the refs were so much calling bad penalties on the wings...its WHEN they called them...mostly in clutch moments.

Plus, yeah whoever said the pens got away with 3 penalties in the last 1:30 is right...first the slash making lils lose his stick, then someone hit his stick toward the blueline, away from him so he couldn't get it...then pasha goes streaking down the boards , more than likely getting an open netter, or at least killing off the clock away from his own net, when he was SO BLATANTLY tripped right in front of a ref and it was ignored...then the pens get TOO CLOSE to putting in a last second goal

There was no officiating conspiracy against the wings in terms of penalties called, or not called for the pens....it was that the refs one minute would let something go, and the next they'd call us for half the infraction of the one they just let go

In no way shape or form was Crosby the biggest Whiner, maybe the biggest whiner of the players, but he is the C he is supposed to speak up. The biggest whiner without a shadow of a doubt was Therrien!

I think he is a main reason players looked else where.

Think of Hossa, he is looking at two Orgs that are going to be good for the next couple of years, what is the biggest gap between the two orgs, in my opinion coaching, followed closely by D.

I might need some clarification here.. That "slash" the OP is talking about is absolutely not a penalty. The motion is upward, not downward toward the stick. A slashing motion is always downward, and this can't be considered for a call,Lilja didn't have a good grip on his stick, this totally doesn't look like a penalty, sorry if I'm offending anyone

Plus, Detroit won, so who cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I voted maybe...there's really no way to truely see whether or not Lilja'a stick would have stopped Gonchar's shot eventually redirected by Hossa. One of those things that will remain a wonderous mystery.

But as someone said above, this reminds me of just how blatantly horrible the officiating was throughout the series, beginning with Lid's goal in Game 1 being called back. And the Penguins were the ones crying about "the Wings get away with everything."
