DatsyukownzU13 1 Report post Posted September 13, 2008 I was at the gym I go to in Grosse Pointe the other day and was walking out of the locker room and saw a guy walking in. I kinda did a double-take then realized it was Kirk Maltby. I kinda nodded at him and he smiled and said, "Hey". I told him I was a big fan and he just replied with a friendly smile and a "thanks a lot". I debated asking him if Helm would make the roster but decided I didn't want to bother the guy, haha. Yeah, pretty boring story. But he seemed like a really nice, down to earth guy. Just thought I'd let you guys in on my boring story haha.

Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted September 13, 2008 Wow you saw Maltby?? You should've asked for a signature... I mean Draper's or Datsyuk's or someone....
Guest Crymson Report post Posted September 13, 2008 (edited) Wow you saw Maltby?? You should've asked for a signature... I mean Draper's or Datsyuk's or someone.... I think that's exactly what he shouldn't have done, and it's good on him that he didn't do it. Sports professionals are as entitled to not be constantly nagged as are anyone else. In a way, you can be a better fan by letting them live their lives being treated like normal people. Edited September 13, 2008 by Crymson
Zion 93 Report post Posted September 13, 2008 You did the right thing. I would keep it short and sweet. They have lives, too. My wife, however, may have not let him go so easily.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted September 13, 2008 I don't think sports people mind if woman harass them and interrupt them, ti's just us guys who aren't allowed to have a conversation with them for fear of annoying them, heh.
Guest r-kade Report post Posted September 13, 2008 Oh my god, that's amazing! I've always wanted to meet him, he's one of my favourite players as well, and he is also from where I'm from.

My comment was more a joke of me roasting Maltby.

Trapt1307 81 Report post Posted September 14, 2008 I work at Target on the Livonia/Novi/Northville boarder, and I saw Lilja yesterday with his wife. I wanted to ask him why the Wings re-signed him, but I didn't feel like getting my ass kicked. The guy is freaking huge. I've also seen Samuelsson twice, Holmstrom, Robert Porcher from the Lions, and Lindsey Hunter from the Pistons. Pretty sweet area to work.

He's rich, famous, gets to play hockey for a living and my girlfriend drools over him.

Shutemdown 23 Report post Posted September 15, 2008 Believe it or not, Datsyuk used to come into Holiday Market on Main St. in Royal Oak ALL THE TIME, the one right across from the Detroit Zoo water tower. He had JUST joined the team, so he wasn't as well-known (or well-liked) as he is now, and his english was VERY poor. I worked as a cashier and he had just bought a condo a couple blocks away, so he was in there probably every other day. Nobody knew who he was at all... I watched every single red wings game, so of course I knew who he was. The first time he came in and I recognized him, I walked up to him and shook his hand and told him he was one of my favorite players. From that day on, he would come in and recognize me, and he always came through my line. He only ever bought 2 things: Vitamin Water and Sushi. haha
Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted September 15, 2008 I saw Sammy with his wife and kid(s?) at Twelve Oaks. Few people actually recognized him, which I'm sure was good for him. I didn't feel like being a ****** and attracting a lot of attention so I just gave him a "What's up?" greeting as I walked by. My brother didn't see him and almost ran into him. He's a pretty big dude too.
