Joe Louis Arena 61st most influential

Coney Island is on the list...and Madison Square Garden is not.

WTF?

Do they really think THAT highly of hot dog eating?

Rangers, Knicks have won many championships in that arena. A lot of HUGE boxing matches have been fought there. Hard to argue the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is more important to sports than all the history at MSG.

Not sure how they get away with including all kinds of fluff on the list and then not including viable locations such as MSG, Tiger Stadium, and others.

I would add, that for the average European MSG is probably the most-known arena in the States, and maybe the only arena that they know.

I don't know if you saw, but Madison Square Garden is number 3 on the list. Other than MSG, the Joe is the the first hockey arena on the list that I saw, with the only other one being United Center.

When I saw ESPN so high on the list I immediately dismissed the entire thing.

Philly's Spectrum is there Too.

One of their criteria is that the stadium still has to be active (Hence the omission of Tiger stadium) So what other hockey arenas do you want? Maybe columbus for how State of the art it is, but all the old arenas are gone. Unless you want to include The Igloo or Nassau Coliseum.

After the Top 10, there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why to incluse the stadiums or why one is better than the other. Joe Louis is city Hall to Hockeytown and we throw octopi. that's the reasoning behind us being on the list.

Meh, I wouldn't really expect the Joe to make it. I think it's a pretty Junkie arena. it got some publicity because we've won a lot there, but i personally can't wait till we get a new rink. I went to Game 6 IN dallas this year, and I was Blown away by their Arena, as well as their atmosphere. Out side they had Music Blaring, Giant inflatable hockey players out on the Street, tons of people doing activities outside before the game, and the arena inside was beautiful. During the game, that crowd was much more passionate and much louder than any wings game I've been to.

I think a Brand new state of the art arena will Definitely improve on that. Go Wings.

And how much history does the AAC have?

I've said repeatedly, I don't care how old the Joe is or how much improved other arenas are. There is nothing like going to a game at the Joe. You're going to see a hockey game, not a techno show. And I hate when people complain about the food/beer selection. As I said before, you're there to see a hockey game, not enjoy a 4 star meal.

I'm sure Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park blow compared to newer ball parks, but they're among the greatest to visit because of the history and sheer allure of the venue itself. I still don't get why the Yankees are building a new ballpark. For me, the Joe will always be a part of hockey history. I say renovate it, not replace it.

The Astrodome is on the list. Kronk's Gym is on the list. Those venues are no more "active" than Tiger Stadium. Why not include the Silverdome while we're at it? It played host to the NBA Finals, Elvis Presley, the NCAA Tournament, The World Cup, The Super Bowl, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Wrestlemania, and even the Pope. That's better than a lot of what is on the list. In fact, it makes me wonder exactly how much thought went into the list at all.

If they ever decide that we need a new arena I will be sad as well. Been going to it since it opened and it is my hockey home.

However, if they were able to make a bigger arena to allow more but cheaper seats, that wouldn't be all too bad. Maybe we all would be able to see a few more games for our money.

I don't see them renovating the Joe however. I believe I read somewhere that the press box was an afterthought which really raises the question of who the heck designed the place and what were their credentials? They can surely do a better job on the next one. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about the Joe, I love the atmosphere there and I really don't think there is a bad seat in the house.

I agree with you statement about the food and beer. As long as they serve some beer with taste I am ok.

I would like to think they would have cheaper seats...but to pay for that monster I really don't see it happening... The CUP changes everything.... including the prices you have to pay to see the team in the years to come.

Hey, don't squash my dreams man! They are the only ones I have!

*grumble grumble*

Yeah, I am aware of the fact that with great championships comes great price increases. <_<

Still, I can hope that there would still be more cheaper seats. We should all pool our money together and get a suite. lol
