FinRedWing 172 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 Ville Leino looked excellent in the scrimmages, always around the puck and defensively responsible Atta boy!

DatsyukownzU13 1 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 I don't know if he is a big hitter, but it looks like he is absolutely laying out McCarty in this one... http://www.redwingscentral.com/camps/2008-...s/Sept22/19.php

Booster313 138 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) I had the opportunty to watch a couple days of practice this past weekend. I agree Larrson looked great. So did Howard though. McCollum was good but looked like he had to work a bit harder to make saves. D-Mac gets the edge over Downey because of his softer hands and great hockey sense. Lenio is awesome from what I saw, I would be surprised if he didn't crack this roster at some point this year. Good to hear... if you don't mind, care to elaborate on that a little? I haven't seen much on him besides some fuzzy youtube videos and some redwingscentral articles so I would love to know a bit more about his style.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) I'd title this one "The Future is Now": http://www.redwingscentral.com/camps/2008-...s/Sept22/21.php Hank, Krons, Big Rig, Franzenstein, McCollum, Leino, Downey Which one doesn't fit the future title, and what is Downey doing lol Edited September 24, 2008 by Konnan511
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 He's weakest part of his game is his skating, according to his coach. yah that too, I've seen from multiple resources that it has come down to his skating, defensive play and he can't make up when to shoot and when not to shoot before it's too late. Kira 451 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 Honestly, I really like Daniel Larsson. He's got good hands and he did quite well at camp. He's got a lot of potential.

Kind of sounds like Hudler...except for the offensive instincts part.

I haven't been able to follow hockey much lately, but from what I've heard, it seems like Larsson really is our goalie of the future. Ideally, the Wings can get two showcase both of them extensively in the NHL and possible drive up the trade value for one or the other.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 Kind of sounds like Hudler...except for the offensive instincts part. True, but for some reason, at least for right now, I see him as a poor man's Recchi to be honest.

More than once he skated through the neutral zone like he had the puck on a string. He wasn't the fastest skater on the ice but he had some pretty slick moves, He also has a pretty quick wrist shot. One one play he entered the zone with the puck did a 360 around one defenseman and shot between anothers legs. Remember when Datsyuk first came into the league and everyone was amazed with his puck and stick tricks...that's what he reminds me of.

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 I'd title this one "The Future is Now": http://www.redwingscentral.com/camps/2008-...s/Sept22/21.php The thing is though, it would work better if we were looking at a bunch of guys in their early 20s. Ericsson is really the only young guy there and even he will be 25 later this season.
servo 15 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 The Suspense is KILLING ME. I can't wait for this season to begin. I think Downey will end up spending more time (much more time) in GR than McCarty. The competition for this 4th line is unbelievable!!
