Being on the west coast I find it incredibly expensive to get all my Wings action on the tube, and frankly - Center Ice online is way too expensive.

I dove head-first into Hockeystreams.com, signing up for a year subscription... and so far I can say without hesitation that it's worth the money. Basically it's $49.99 for a full year (not season), and they cover pretty much all that is broadcast with no blackout issues. Naturally the official season has not started yet, but they've been up for over a year I guess and they're improving things all the time. For instance - they have a neat chat feature so you can connect with other Wings fans during the game and badmouth the refs when they call Homer for interference. :ranting:

I've watched several live streams, and the quality is excellent... they stream in 548kbps and I have successfully hooked my laptop up to my HDTV - the quality isn't high definition of course, but it is surprisingly good through s-video or composite. The webmaster has suggested that they may offer higher bitrates to those who can handle it - so the quality will be even better in the near future.

I got word from the main webmaster "billy" that they might start streaming all the classic games as well... and if you want to go back to a specific game in the season they already have a good archive system going.

Check it out for yourselves - you can sign up for just a day if you want to check out the streams. They get all the Canadian channels as well as NHL Network, Center Ice, etc... so that's how they avoid some untimely blackout issues. It's a lot better presentation than SOPcast - but you should test it out first.

If you decide to go for any sort of subscription - apparently they have a referral program, and I wouldn't argue against you clicking on this link: Hockeystreams.com. Seriously I don't work for the site, just a huge fan of what they've put together and wanted to pass the word on.

Looks good.

It seems they do have some archived Red Wings games. Can you verify that they work Toreless??

http://www.hockeystreams.com/hockey_archiv...troit_red_wings

Yep - work like a charm. The archive was the only thing I could check out at first since I subscribed before the start of the pre-season. Got all the playoff games and a few before. Watching the Canadian broadcast version of game 6 was pretty interesting ... got to see some different camera angles than the NBC broadcast.

I know!! For the price and what you are supposed to get this seems like the way to go.

Although it suck if the site got taken down by the NHL half way thru the season!

I heard they offered discounts if you jumped in halfway... but It's still over a hundred bucks I'm pretty sure.

It's a gamble... I may end up regretting it, but for me its worth the risk! You can do a monthly subscription too or 6 months I think... that way you aren't putting in a $50 commitment.

I really like how responsive their main web guy is too - he was in all the chat rooms helping people with streaming problems (usually those with Macs) and seemed very friendly when I was asking about the classic games on NHL Network. He said they might do a 24/7 feed of the classic games, which I would totally be up for.

Decent pricing scheme, but I wonder if he banks on anyone questioning the difference between a 6 month subscription and a yearly one. If you ordered a 6 month subscription ($29.99) plus a 1 month subscription ($9.99--$39.98 total) that would last from the start of the regular season (Oct. 9) through April 9th. By that time, we're in the playoffs and almost all Wings games are covered by Vs. or NBC.

Just food for thought to save one $10 over the yearly subscription.

Thanks for the heads up, keep us informed during the season how this is working out. Maybe if this thing is as awesome as you say it is, we can pool some money here and split a username and password among us if that is at all possible.

I thought about that too - but wanted access to all other games too on off-nights. I think that's what they were banking on when they set up the pricing scheme... that people might want year-long access to get all the playoffs as well as the World Cup coverage and awards/draft coverage if they don't get versus.

As far as sharing a subscription on the site - I know I'm all about saving money but I think they do IP logging to make sure you can't just all share one subscription. When you log in it tells you your IP address - so I assume that's what they're doing.

Yeah, I have a membership there. I highly recommend it as far as streams go, others are way to unpredicatable and the quality can be terrible.

The archived games are great too. Just watched a game from the Dallas series a couple days ago.

Wow, this is great. i just don't like the 20$ jump from 6 mos to 1 year. i'd like to have it for the draft and stuff.

I read the rules and it just says that you need to inform them if you're using multiple IPs...... it says that if you use more than 3 they'll cancel your account, no refund.

maybe it would be a good idea to pair up, instead of everyone sharing?

I think if you're streaming from just 2 ip's they woulnd't be suspicious....especially if you come up with a reason for it.

Question - Can they see where your ip is from? Like, will he know that My computer is in windsor, and say, the other ip is coming from North Carolina??

If not, i'd be willing to pair up with someone. I'll put it on my card, and i'll take a half payment from paypal from someone.

if they CAN tell, is there anybody here from Windsor that would like to go halfs with me?

I'm saying get the 6 month Package. In windsor, we get the Draft and Awards on TSN, but we get close to 0 Red Wing Games.

I'd like to purchase it Right before the season starts too....I don't need to pay for Preseason.

Nice, never heard of this. While I can definitely afford NHL Center Ice spending roughly $100 more, with everything being just so ridiculously expensive nowadays saving every little bit helps. Are they broadcasting pre-season games at all? I'm in no hurry to watch a bunch of pre-season games since they don't count, but I'm going on vacation right on season opening day so I might not be watching games for a few days, try it out before vacation and get it out of the way. Is it possible to just view a sample for maybe 10-15 minutes or do you still have to sign up? I had NHL Center Ice Online last year, and while more often than not the quality was good in terms of picture, sometimes the action was choppy and it took a while for the online feed to catch up and get back to normal.

so this site will stream EVERY NHL game? and you can watch as many as you like on any given night (stopping and playing another)? and how legit is this site, i assume it will be shut down as soon as it grows? and lastly does it run on p2p (like sopcast), or are they dedicated servers we're connecting to and not sharing bandwidth?

the price of 6 months (basically is the whole year) is very tempting!

Even if this is cheaper then center ice online I will still pick center just because I know what to expect. Just me though.
So are you trying to say you'd buy a jersey from NHL.com before you'd buy it from China???

I do have concerns about the site getting shutdown, then you're out of your $50. But it's a risk I might just take.

Did anybody happen to have this last year?

They're streaming all the televised pre-season games, and at one point they had some free games lined up where you could watch the first period before signing up. You might have to contact "billy" on the site to check if they're still doing this.

They've had a few streaming issues, but that webmaster "billy" dude is always in the chatrooms and updating people on what work they're doing to improve the streams and enhance the site. It's definitely refreshing to see someone so hands-on in the process.

Just a reminder to everyone if you end up liking the service and signing up you could always use this link... if you feel like it :hehe:http://www.hockeystreams.com/register/torless

This sounds great. I subscribe to a similar site to get European soccer games streamed.

My only concern is how vulnerable these guys would be to getting shut down once the NHL gets wind of it. I see they're based in the Netherlands, which helps, but I'm not sure it would be enough. Anyone want to fill me in on what assurances they can give that they'll still be online by next June?
