The question is... will detroit get 80 wins?

People are really in for a rude awakening if they feel Detroit is just going to walk over anyone and everyone. I know this was a joke, but there are way too many people here talking about records being shattered and the Stanley Cup just being handed to Detroit.

Nice link. Thanks.

But why anyone cares what Don Cherry thinks on the upcoming season is beyond me. He barely knows who's who on teams other than the Maple Laughs, and he doesn't ever know the proper pronounciation of other teams players. He made his name coaching the Bruins yet falls over himself each time he's on air cheering for the Laughs. CBC or not, why the hell is he cheering for the Laughs? Because he's paid by the CBC? Yeh, insighful and truthful he is not.

Watch the Laughs win 2 or 3 games in a row and see how fast he says they're gonna be pretty good this year. Cherry has some goofy suits and is an entertaining guy to some, but that's all. With his hateful remarks and pride in acting like an ignorant jackass - no thanks!

Not me, what people think doesn't really concern me. Let them have high hopes, we should all have high hopes, maybe not unrealistic ones, but no need to rain on anyone's parade. I do agree that things need to be put in perspective, but let people think we are going to do awesome this year, I do! 98-0 baby!

id rather just be a realist instead of planning a back to back parade for next june.

i have high hopes for the Wings but im sure you and many here have watched hockey long enough to know that the best team isnt always standing at the end of the playoffs.

Yahhhh I know. Just trying to defend the other people for a change. I'm a realist too, but I think it's fun to set high expectations once in a while ya know (not 80 wins or anything like that, but near 60 wins, injury problems held to a minimum, and a solid but controlled battle through the playoffs like the last).

OMGGGG look at this little dandy I saw:

All they have is "Mr. Perfect" himself (Lidstrom), leading a group that includes his likely defensive partner, Brian Rafalski, as well as Kronwall, Brad Stuart, Andreas Lilja, Brett Lebda and Chris Chelios.

 they got his name right!!!! After all these years, this new NHL.com is even more awesome!!!

How this beauty hasn't been posted or quoted on here is beside me, check this shizzle out:

I don't see anything tripping them up along the way," Cherry said in agreement. "(Marian) Hossa? I mean, they got richer. ... I see no weakness in them at all. (Goalie Chris) Osgood is just as good as ever. ... (Coach Mike) Babcock's doing a great job. I mean, there's nothing wrong with them. If you're betting, you've got to bet on Detroit again this year."

I don't care how many wins they have as long as they get to raise the cup again. It's okay to have high expectations but look what it did for the Tigers this past year.

Cherry is such an idiot!1!!, why would he say that stuff @!@!@!

Oh wait, he gives us a compliment, and Ozzie to boot, and says we're the odds on favorite. What a terrible, terrible man.
