VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted October 10, 2008 They didn't play bad, but no one stood out. They're not in form yet. I didn't see any amazing skills from anyone there. But seriously folks, saying Toronto is going to be good because they eked out one win? Who are these people and what are they smoking? I'm really not concerned, though I would have liked to beat Toronto.
Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2008 They're not going to be good, but at the very least, they won't be an easy team to play against, which is more than you can say about them the last three or so years. A wise hockey man once said that you take every hockey opinion formed in October and throw them out the window on Nov. 1st. It is just annoying to hear Leafs fans talking about how they were able to control them as if Detroit played their all. NO THEY DIDNT SO SHUT UP ALREADY
MississippiWing 14 Report post Posted October 10, 2008 Would have liked the Wings to pick up the win, but it was just some bone head plays that led to the loss. No clearing the puck out of the front of the net led to 2 goals and the 3rd I'm not quite sure what Cleary was thinking passing that.
Yak19 303 Report post Posted October 10, 2008 Still 81 games to go but it does not feel good to have Toronto as one of your losses, its like seriously but like it was mentioned you couldnt notice Hank and Datsyuk out there. They didn't even play hockey until it was 2-0 but i wasnt even really mad, upset but not mad, the Leafs have so little and they will not be in the playoffs so i guess they can enjoy this win. Guest Jeremy88 Report post Posted October 10, 2008 kinda disappointed in the effort the wings gave tonight...but hey, they're heads still aren't clear from last year it seems. I think all the wings played well at one point in the game, but it seems they kept trying the same thing and kept failing. It looked to me like they had a hard time getting the puck through the neutral zone, and just didn't play at 100%. No worries, I think they needed that loss more than they needed a win. Now they can get past last year and get working on this season. GO WINGS!

DatsyukownzU13 1 Report post Posted October 10, 2008 H-D-H looked pretty good if anything. Combined = 10 shots, 2 goals, 2 assists, 4 points, +3. Too bad the other lines looked terrible.
Dawgs 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2008 The Wings were sluggish and undisciplined. They showed little aggression. They allowed Toronto to get comfortable and once they did the Wings sat back and watched them play. We were following the puck all night. Nineteen giveaways is horrible. I bet we dont have any 2 games this season with 19 total. This was the worst game I think Ive ever seen Zetterberg play. He was brutal. The lack of playing time for Datsyuk, Hossa and Homer showed. Hossa looked out of sync. Datsyuk had 2 giveaways. Still without the gifts from Ozzie and Cleary we win this game. A loss may be better in the long run. This team needs to shed the happy feeling of the banner raising and get to work. Tonight reminded them they need to work hard night in and night out.

Guest Four Report post Posted October 10, 2008 (edited) Looks like The Red Wings are going to need to create an alternate way to play when they are faced by the teams who can cope with their style of play.. Poor Wings today though, all those repeats they'll do is scary "The bottom line is, we found out what level the NHL is played at tonight." Guest Four Report post Posted October 10, 2008 put hank and pavel back together. Babcock did for the last 30 seconds and it looked amazing.. I think they had more chances then than the whole game itself
Cern 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2008 Good god, people are treating game one as if the ******* Holocaust happened on ice. People need to take some deep breaths and ease up a bit. There are some pretty different lineups on offense and while at moments like on the second goal it clicked, the pairings and chemistry are something that need to be tinkered with, especially with many of the big players having missed sizeable chunks of the preseason. Even Flames fans aren't raining as much verbal fire and brimstone as people here are about the wings, and the Flames performed worse at virtually all aspects of play than the Wings did. Just chill the f*** OUT.

NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted October 10, 2008 It's actually kind of bittersweet with all this record-shattering talk I've been hearing on LGW since Hossa was added. Maybe members will take a step back and realize it isn't a cake walk regardless of talent. As for those freaking out.....It's one game peope, relax. Babcock did for the last 30 seconds and it looked amazing.. I think they had more chances then than the whole game itself They also were pushing as hard as they could for the tying goal and had Hossa-ZDH and Lids-Raf on the ice. Of course it looked amazing, but Babs most certainly can't do that all game, nor should he put the ZDH line back together after *one* game.

motorcitykid 42 Report post Posted October 11, 2008 (edited) Ugh, well this sucks.. more games to come, but still.. Ugh. I know the wings can do better, just the only thing that sucks for me is the tons of F*cking leaf fans around here. Lets get things straight for Ottawa. I just want this "WOW TORONTO MAY BE GOOD THIS YEAR" talk to end already. They didn't play bad, but no one stood out. They're not in form yet. I didn't see any amazing skills from anyone there. But seriously folks, saying Toronto is going to be good because they eked out one win? Who are these people and what are they smoking? I'm really not concerned, though I would have liked to beat Toronto. It is just annoying to hear Leafs fans talking about how they were able to control them as if Detroit played their all. NO THEY DIDNT SO SHUT UP ALREADY OK. The importance of last nights game is more crucial to some of us than others. And thats fine. OF COURSE we are God's team and 1 loss to a group of AHL'ers means nothing in the grand scheme of things. We all know where we'll be at seasons end, and where the Laughs will be. But the problem is this: In Toronto last night, they were showing the game on a giant screen at a downtown square for free. The place went insane when they won, and the pathetic Toronto fanbase partied late afterwards like they had won something. Headlines screamed "fans party like it's 1967". In this context, you can see why it is simple inexcusable to those of us close to these losers to give up a win to the Laughs. But onward and upward my beautiful Wings!! Chelichic 12 Report post Posted October 11, 2008 Well I was happy to go to the game and glad to see the banner raising. It was great to see the Wings back on the ice... they didn't play well... and we all know they lost... but it was still great to be at the game and to see the Wings. Im glad the season has started... a win would have been nice but there are 81 more games to go and I can see them playing well.
