10/18 GDT: Red Wings 5, Rangers 4 (OT)

Offense looked improved tonight. That OT winner was classic Datsyuk finishing in the offensive zone, found Hossa perfectly on the tape. As picture perfect as that pass was, Hossa would have REALLY had to work at it to miss the back of the net with that one.

The first-goal-monkey is off his back, and he got arguably as big a goal as you CAN get for his first. With any luck, that'll be a springboard for big things to come. OMG HOSSA!!! Lol.

Hudler and Hossa - the two guys that suffered the most criticism so far up front - save our bacon tonight. Priceless.

Despite the win, I'm really disappointed with the way this team has been playing. 30 some shots against? Around 40 turnovers at home over 3 games? That may be hockey to some people, but thats not Red Wings hockey.

We saw tonight what the team is capable of, provided that they put in 100% effort.

There is an enormous difference between a team that sucks and a team that has it but just isn't working hard enough.

I had to sit thru the whole game watching that stupid New York feed on JustinTV listenning to that guy saying that Gomez is out playing Datrsyuk all night long. Then Datsyuk steals a Gomez pass that starts off the game winner, as he dumps and chases his own puck, then plays keep away along the boards and hits a streaking Marian Hossa for the G Winner!

Even then, it takes 5 replays before the play by play guy admits that Datsyuk's defensive play on Gomey starts it off.

Sheesh.

Don't get me wrong, Gomey was flying out there, but those guys were such Homers it was driving me nuts.

Congrats to Marian Hossa, nice goals Huds and Sammy. Excellent victory. Was nice to see the crowd getting into it when they did.

Datsyuk was my number one star.

Wings aren't playing their best at all, but still they won the team with most points this far. I understand that the game makes some people so emotional that they start to whine, but really you shouldn't worry about the Red Wings. At least not yet, wait 'til next spring.

The blessing and the curse for this Wings team is that they have the offense to squeak out high scoring win.

Of course, knowing they can do this makes it hard to commit to the defense-first discipline that's made them successful the last few years.

But, in October, a wins a win. How they win becomes more important as they get into playoff mode.

Thank god for that win.

Now I can let my friends and boss have it! mwahahahaha!! :)

Anyway...Was a sloppy win and im sure we all know this team can play alot better.

It shouldnt take us 5 goals to win a hockey game. Need to tighten up the D for the next one.

Well with that said, So happy to shut my friends up and those damn Ranger commentators.

Goodnight all!

Too often they look complacent and like they are pacing themselves for a long season. I don't believe a team can successfully pace itself. Its not something that can be just turned on right before the playoffs. Yes they can continue to gain momentum, with a fes peaks and valleys, but overall they've got to turn it up. Hopefully tonite Hossa and Huds lighting the lamp will get things going.
