Best Red Wings Line of all time

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

For anyone who watched it, they had a text in poll for best line combo of all time, and the production line Howe-Abel-Lindsay took majority of the votes, which I agree with... but I thought the other options were a little peculiar...

1. Howe-Abel-Lindsay

2. Howe-Delvecchio-Lindsay

3. Ogrodnick-Yzerman-Gallant

4. Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

My question is - How do you leave the 97 Stanley Cup champion line of Fedorov-Yzerman-McCarty off of the list? Every other combo on that list had right around 200 pts and this line put up 197 that year... plus a cup... I was just surprised out of all the Yzerman lines, that they chose that one... I would've understood the Gallant-Yzerman-MacLean even more, as they put up an OBSCENE 319 pts in 89 (although MacLean was only there for one season) and Yzerman had 155 that year...

I still agree that the production line gets the win, just thought the choices were a little odd...

Thats what i call a serious line :D

Foreal tho i looked at it and was like Ogrodnick-Yzerman-Gallant y would they put that line out of all the lines, i was jst like damn out of all the Yzerman lines that one Y YYYYYY, but couldnt figure it out. if they had the Gallant-Yzerman-MacLean line there im guessing they would have came in second. If i heard right i think Mr. Redmond brought out the Yzerman and Maclean line sumwhere in the conversation, but ya i didnt understand it either.

4 years apart between the 3 of them, and their primes were in completely different eras... So true, so sad... but hey 3 cups out of that, what the hell?!

I am shocked nobody has mentioned the following combinations:

Kozlov-Larionov-Fedorov 1995-96

Kozlov-Fedorov-Ciccarelli 1993-94

Primeau-Yzerman-Sheppard 1993-94

And of course the fastest skating line I've ever seen iced...

Laplante-Roest-Butsayev...aka the Roaring 20s line.

Personally I have to put a different vote in. Over the past few years on LGW's, I have mentioned it a few times, but in 02', when I watched the Wings live in Vancouver on the PP they had,

Hull Yzerman Shanahan

Fedorov Lidstrom

Hasek

Check, Mate. Competition Over.

Id say that they used the Ogrodnick version over the MacLean version because Ogrodnick is one of the Wings all time greats. Second player to have a 50 goal season, the one bright spot in the dead things era. He was nearing the end tho. My opinion is the MacLean version was much better.

The points that Abel, Lindsay and Howe put up in an era of 1-0 games put them over the Delvecchio centered line. Left together, I think the Datsyuk-Hank line had a chance to move up to the second spot in the future.
